*LIVESTREAM SUNDAY WORSHIP LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lwwPLrMBk8

*WELCOME to HOSANNA! –
Warmest welcome to all of you joining us virtually through livestream! Even through this arctic storm that has come upon Dallas, praise be to God for the gift of technology to connect us together virtually in worship and adoration of our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you for joining us via livestream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lwwPLrMBk8) through this condensed virtual worship service.

*GOD’S GREETING & CALLING TO WORSHIP –
Grace, mercy, and peace be to you from God our Father in heaven, God the eternal Son our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, and God our Teacher, Counselor, Comforter, and Helper into all truth, the indwelling Holy Spirit.

*PASSING HIS PEACE –
As our Lord has greeted us, turn to someone worshipping with you, hopefully a family member or another Hosanna congregant even through a text message, passing this peace of the gospel –
“Fear God with all of your household!”
“Give generously to His people!”
“Pray continually to God!”

*APOSTLES’ CREED –
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
      Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
      Born of the virgin Mary
      Suffered under Pontius Pilate,
      was crucified, dead, and buried
      He descended into hell.
On the third day, He rose again
      And ascended into heaven
Where He sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty.
From there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
      the holy universal church,
      the communion of saints,
      the forgiveness of sins,
      the resurrection of the body,
      and the life everlasting. Amen.

*OPENING PRAYER –
Rev. Chester Chung

*OPENING PRAISE & ADORATION –
Be Thou My Vision

Verse 1
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

Verse 2
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.

Verse 3
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.

Verse 4
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.

Verse 5
High King of Heaven, my victory won,
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.
King of Kings

In the darkness we were waiting
Without hope, without light
'Til from Heaven You came running
There was mercy in Your eyes
To fulfill the law and prophets
To a virgin came the word
From a throne of endless glory
To a cradle in the dirt

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

To reveal the kingdom coming
And to reconcile the lost
To redeem the whole creation
You did not despise the cross
For even in your suffering
You saw to the other side
Knowing this was our salvation
Jesus for our sake you died

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings

And the morning that You rose
All of Heaven held its breath
'Til that stone was moved for good
For the Lamb had conquered death
And the dead rose from their tombs
And the angels stood in awe
For the souls of all who'd come
To the Father are restored

And the church of Christ was born
Then the Spirit lit the flame
Now this gospel truth of old
Shall not kneel, shall not faint
By His blood and in His name
In His freedom I am free
For the love of Jesus Christ
Who has resurrected me

Praise the Father, praise the Son
Praise the Spirit, three in one
God of glory, Majesty
Praise forever to the King of Kings
Praise forever to the King of Kings

*PRAYER TO CLOSE PRAISE –
Rev. Chester Chung

*CALL FOR SACRED GIVING OF TITHES & OFFERINGS –
Giving today will be online only through our zelle email: [email protected].
We give because He first gave.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

~ The Gospel according to JOHN 3:16
"Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house..."
says the LORD of hosts.

~ The Prophecy of MALACHI 3:10
Thank you for giving joyfully and abundantly like the LORD who first gave His one and only Son, so that we might believe in Him and not perish, but have eternal life! May God be the owner of all you possess, the Giver of all that's been received, the Provider for all that you need. May the LORD supply you even more abundantly, to give even more lavishly, to multiply this gospel, to raise His ministers, to fund His ministries, to advance His mission for the expansion of His Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven! Amen.

*THE LORD’S PRAYER –
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be Thy name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on 2026 January & February Ministry

Scripture:

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. (PHILIPPIANS 4:8)

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (1 PETER 1:8-9)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, though we cannot see each other today in-person, just as we have not seen Your Son yet, help our love for one another and for You to be ever growing and present. Though we do not see Christ now, we believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with His glory. Likewise, we cannot be with Your body today, but we believe in the creation of Your body at Hosanna, and rejoice with joy inexpressible at what You are accomplishing through us. We are obtaining the outcome of our faith, the salvation of our souls as we continue to gather together, virtually as today and communally in-person. Help us be Your Church even through this online worship today, to think like Jesus, to renew our mind in our words and actions to whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise – let this be the thoughts, words, and worshipful acts of our lives. We lift up to You the remainder of this month in January and the approaching February ministries. Bless today’s virtual worship gathering. Bless the discussions that will happen at the end of this livestream with friends and family at home. Bless the 1pm Officers gathering as they fellowship, plan, and prepare for future ministries. Bless Director Rachel Ko on her birthday this Thursday. We thank You for her devotion to serve and love your children. Keep her in good health to keep being Your presence and joy. Bless next Sunday’s holy communion with a deep gratitude for Jesus Christ at His table. Help us bring all to You – young to old – to Your table, and open our eyes to deeper self-examination that causes fruitful repentance towards godliness. We lift up to You all the new life that is growing in the womb, and all those praying for new life to come – in Your time and Your way, deliver them safely to us and answer the desires of all the longing hearts delighting in You. Prepare us for Missionary Cha’s visit. Challenge us with the Word and calling You have put on them. Keep our Hosanna Church away from the evil one, always armored and guarded in our hearts as the wellspring of life in Jesus Christ, in His risen Name we pray, Amen & amen.

*MESSAGE:
[The Gospel According to the Acts of the Apostles – THE CHURCH IN ACTION (part 38)]
A Devout Man Who Feared God: The Calling of Cornelius to Christ (ACTS 10:1-8)
Rev. Chester Chung

1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort, 2 a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.” 4 And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter. 6 He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.” 7 When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those who attended him, 8 and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

*PRAISE OF RESPONSE:
Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

Amazing grace
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind, but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

My chains are gone
I’ve been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy reigns
Unending love, amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbid to shine
But, God who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

*CLOSING PRAYER & BENEDICTION:
Rev. Chester Chung

*AFTER-SERVICE BREAKING BREAD & DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
A Devout Man Who Feared God: The Calling of Cornelius to Christ (ACTS 10:1-8)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(1.) [v.1-2] The scene of Acts now shifts from Joppa up northward to the coastal Roman city of Caesarea, named after the Emperor of the Roman Empire – Caesar Augustus. Who was there in Caesarea (v.1)? Although Caesarea was rampant with polytheism (belief in multiple gods) and the worship of the Roman Emperor/Caesar, what was different about this man (v.2)? Like Cornelius had done, how are you devoting to fear God alone with all your household in the midst of our world that mocks the God of the Bible? How is your fear of God shown through your giving of offerings/alms? How is your fear of God shown through your continual prayer life? Like Cornelius, how is Christ cultivating in us a fertile-soiled heart that is dissatisfied with ungodliness and drawn to a sincere godly life for Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.3-4] Although Cornelius had a holy fear for God, he did not know anything about the risen Son of God – King Jesus Christ. Therefore, God decides to appear to Cornelius in a vision so that he might retrieve Peter and be taught the full gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. What did Cornelius clearly see and hear in the vision (v.3)? What did the angel say about Cornelius’ prayers and his alms giving (v.4)? How has God needed to get your attention to see Him more clearly? Like God said of Cornelius’ prayers and alms, can God say the same about the sincerity of our prayers and the generosity in our giving? How has God reminded you that your prayers and generosity in giving have ascended to Him as a memorial and pleasing sacrifice? How is our spiritual discipline in these areas a means of fearing God fully in the whole gospel of Jesus Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.5-8] What did the angel command Cornelius to do and how were the instructions given in great detail (v.5-6)? When the angel departed, what did Cornelius do (v.7-8)? How is your quick obedience related to fearing God rightly? When has God desired for your quick obedience instead of delayed obedience? Why is it important to obey the Lord quickly? Like Cornelius, how has the Lord given you detailed instructions to obey? How can we obey God joyfully instead of begrudgingly?

*TODAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – Today, spend some time in your group tables (group# found in the note page of your bulletin) and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another!
[The Gospel According to the Acts of the Apostles – THE CHURCH IN ACTION (part 36)]
Full of Good Works and Grace: The Legacy of a Godly Woman (ACTS 9:36-43)

(1.) [v.36-38] In Joppa, what was the disciple Tabitha known for (v.36)? Although she was a faithful, genuine, and generous disciple, what happened to Tabitha (v.37)? Because the community was so grieved and sorrowful over the death of Tabitha, what did the disciples in Joppa do upon hearing that Peter was nearby in the town of Lydda (v.38)? In your family… among your church family… among your neighbors… what are you known for in your character? Are we just talkers about doing good works and acts of charity for Christ, or are we truly doers of them like the disciple Tabitha was? “Charity” in this verse means the giving of alms – generous financial gifts and offerings of support. The disciple Tabitha evidenced this through the many garments/tunics she made to cloth the widows. How are you being good stewards of God’s financial entrustment to you? Does your giving reflect generosity or sparsity? Will the absence of your presence and your godly generosity be missed or go unnoticed? Will your absence bring godly grief and sorrow to God’s people because you are a visible image and reflection of the character of Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.39-40] When Peter arrived at the upper room where Tabitha’s dead body lay, what were the widows doing and why (v.39)? What did Peter ask everyone to do (v.40)? Then, what did Peter do as he turned to the body of Tabitha (v.40)? How was Peter recalling the healing words of Jesus from Mark 5:41 and Luke 8:54? When you pass into glory, what are the “tunics and garments” you will leave behind, like Tabitha did? What are the words of Christ you will leave behind that can unleash spiritual power, like Jesus’ healing words did with Peter? How are you unlearning to lead with your own words and letting Jesus lead you with His divine Word?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.41-43] As the widows were reunited in fellowship with Tabitha, who was Peter uniting in fellowship for several days in Joppa (v.43)? Tabitha was resuscitated back to her old life only to die again. How will we be raised differently by Jesus Christ?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on 2026 January Ministry

Scripture:

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (JOHN 3:3)

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. (ROMANS 12:4-5)

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (GALATIANS 3:28)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the month of January 2026. Thank You for the blessed celebrations of birthdays today for our brother Justin Chao, sister Ashley Chung, and Director Trey Reynolds. We celebrate their birth, but so much more the new birth You have generated in them from the womb of the Kingdom of heaven. Truly, unless on is born again, we cannot see the kingdom of God. So we pray today our three souls will see more and more Your Kingdom come, Your will be done in their lives as they live out their new birth from above. Bless their families today with joy in Your presence. Bless our Elder Heather's birthday this Thursday as well. We praise You for the new life to come, the nourishing growth and healthy delivery of our new sister Gee. May Your hand rest upon the Gee’s and Deacon Gloria as they prepare for Your joy to come. We praise You for Your healing touch on our sister Aria's fever this week. Bless our breakout discussion groups and lunch fellowship today with deep conversations around Christ, His mind, and His Word. This Friday, bless and be with our AGAPE young adults & families life group gathering. Tomorrow, we thank You for the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who left us an imprint of what it means to be part of the one body in Christ, the endowment of Your image on all Your children, and the gospel that transcends racial and cultural barriers. May we never give in to discriminating one another for any reason or prejudice, but live into being the one body of Christ with many members. We may not all have the same function, but we still makeup Your Son’s one body, individually members of one another. Now in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male role and female role that separate and distinguish one more dominant than the other in both the home and church, but we are all one in Christ Jesus clothed with the character of Christ Jesus. Help us to submit to one another and love each other, as Christ has loved us, and as Christ has used Reverend King’s short life to show us, through our risen King and Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & Amen.

[The Gospel According to the Acts of the Apostles – THE CHURCH IN ACTION (part 36)]
Rise and Make Your Bed! Godly Stewardship of a Healed Life (ACTS 9:32-35)

(1.) [v.32] After Saul had preached boldly the name of the Lord Jesus in Jerusalem and escaped safely to Tarsus, we return to the life of Peter. Because Peter remained in Jerusalem, he could have potentially met Saul, heard his preaching, and been influenced by his conversion and subsequent calling to take the gospel beyond the walls of Jerusalem (Paul says in Galatians 1:18 that he met Peter for 15 days, “Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days.”). For the most part, Peter did not move beyond Jerusalem. His ministry was confined to this city (see Acts 5:16). Yet, what was Peter doing that took him 30 miles west of Jerusalem to the city of Lydda? Why were there “saints” all the way out west of Jerusalem (remember the result of Saul’s ministry from the prior verse Acts 9:31)? As Peter traveled extensively and sacrificially to meet the saints in Lydda outside his own comfortable boundaries, how is the Lord calling you extensively and sacrificially to be with the saints of His Church outside your own comfortable boundaries? How is the Lord desiring for His gospel to go outside our own walls?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.33-34] As Peter traveled to Lydda, the Lord providentially led him to minister to a paralyzed brother in Christ, Aeneas, bedridden for eight years. With what words did Peter heal Aeneas and what did he tell Aeneas to do (v.34)? How has the Lord providentially led you to meet someone He desired for you to minister to or be ministered by? If Christ has truly healed you, what is the “bed” you need to make and rise from that has paralyzed you spiritually for years, as Aeneas had to do? What stewardship has God entrusted to your healed and restored life in Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.35] When Aeneas immediately obeyed Peter’s words by rising to make his bed and preparing something to eat, what happened? The plain of Sharon is over 50 miles long. With just one act of obedience to Christ in stewarding your healed life, how can you influence your “plain of Sharon” to turn to Jesus?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on 2026 January Ministry

Scripture:

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 JOHN 1:7)

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (MATTHEW 18:20)

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (HEBREWS 10:24-25)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the month of January 2026. Thank You for giving us new time, new blessings awaiting Your beloved Church. Thank you for bringing Reserve Elder Andrew Lee to Hosanna, his faithful example of Christ’s servanthood throughout all these years. May You continue to get Your glory through him and work powerfully through him to advance Your Kingdom through Your Church. Bless all the new year gatherings and informal fellowship times with our Pastor, for members to share their hearts, lives, and tears, advancing their walk with Christ. Bless our breakout discussion groups with Christ-exalting expositions and thoughts on Your living Word, edifying one another. Bless the dishwashing servants today with their selfless Christlike servanthood. Bless the staff today as they gather to dream more of Your Kingdom on earth through Hosanna. Be with the JAMES life group families as they regather this Saturday for a time of teaching, sharing their lives, and prayer. Give us joy in Your presence as we celebrate the birthdays of Ashley, Justin, and Director Trey. In all this, may we walk in the light, as Christ is our light, to have true fellowship with one another with the blood of Jesus cleansing us from all sin. For we know where two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus, You are here among us. So let us consider how we can stir up one another to love and good works. Let us not neglect to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another all the more as we see the Day of Christ’s return drawing nearer and nearer. In the risen name of Jesus Christ who is coming again while we draw nearer to one another again in His fellowship, Amen & amen.

“Therefore I have Hope, Therefore I will Hope” (LAMENTATIONS 3:19-30)

(1.) [v.19-24] The book of Lamentations is a collection of five poetic funeral songs of sorrow and mourning, which conveys the title of the book in “lament” which means “to wail, to mourn, to grieve, to despair, to weep.” The weeping prophet Jeremiah is mourning over the destruction of Jerusalem, the desecration of God’s temple of worship, and the exile of God’s people during the fall of the southern Kingdom of Judah by the Babylonian Empire in 586 BC. There was immense loss of life as the Babylonians cut off the food supply to the city, causing starvation. The holy temple of worship was looted and burned. Houses were ravaged and burned. The last king of Judah – King Zedekiah – was forced to watch the execution of his sons, then his eyes were removed to blind him, and he was taken to Babylon where he later died. This great suffering was like “wormwood and the gall” (v.19) – a bitter herb and poisonous substance, portraying the spiritual poison of idolatry and disobedience to the Lord that had come upon the people of God. Yet instead of ignoring this affliction, what does Jeremiah continue to do in his soul and recall to his mind (v.20-24)? How is it good to remember our difficult seasons without putting a false positivity on them? When our soul sinks to its lowest night, how can it be the start of the newest morning? How is Christ’s hope known in hopelessness?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.25-26] As Jeremiah’s afflicted soul turns into a hopeful soul by the unceasing steadfast love of the Lord, what habit does he learn is good for him to develop (v.25-26)? How are you learning to hope in the Lord by waiting upon the Lord? How is hoping in the Lord not in a hurry to solve our troubles and difficult times?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.27-30] What else does Jeremiah learn that is good from his hope in the Lord, especially concerning his youth (v.27-30)? How is God training you to hope in Him now during your spiritual youth to keep you from falling in spiritual adulthood? By hoping in the Lord, how is your tongue being held back? How is God’s hope training you to quietly surrender your whole self as His servant and receive the sufferings that Jesus Himself received, who was struck and insulted?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on thanksgiving for Mya Krief’s baptism & 2026 Ministry Year

Scripture:

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (2 CORINTHIANS 5:17)

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” (REVELATION 21:5)

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (ISAIAH 40:31)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this very first Sunday of 2026 and all the rest of the 51 Lord’s Day’s remaining. You are so faithful to give us another year, more time, to be wholly transformed as a new creation in Your only Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The old has passed away. Let us behold the new that is coming for us in 2026. Already, You have shown us the new life you are birthed in Your daughter Mya with the washing of the Holy Spirit in baptism. We are truly witnesses of Your hand and deep love resting upon her life. Through the waters of her baptism, as Mya has joined into the covenant family of the Lord’s Church, help us be faithful to our new sister in guiding her, staying spiritually accountable to her, and ensuring that she continues to grow in loving Jesus with all her heart, mind, soul, and strength. May her baptism reminds us of our washing in Your Spirit, and weigh it heavy in our hearts to know this new sister is now grafted into Christ’s body. Behold, You who are seated on the throne are making all things new for Mya and for all of us who are in Christ Jesus, because Your words are trustworthy and true. Whatever awaits us in 2026, keep us waiting for You, renewing our strength in You, and mounting up with wings like eagles to soar and run to You without growing wearing or faint. Today, bless our dessert ministry with sister Joy’s birthday and all the January birthdays. Bless Johann’s birthday this Thursday. Bless our kitchen ministry this Saturday morning and Sunday’s dishwash ministry. Bless our 1st AGAPE gathering for 2026 this Saturday. May all these be to the praise of Your glorious grace into 2026 and beyond, in the risen Lord and King Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen & amen.

“I will Remember the Deeds of the LORD” (PSALM 77:11-20)

(1.) [v.11-15] This psalm is written by Asaph, who was the foremost worship musician in the days of King David and King Solomon. The psalms were the first sacred worship songs of praise and adoration to God. Here, Asaph appears to be troubled by the thought that God had abandoned him, questioning if the Lord’s steadfast love had ceased (v.7-8) and if the Lord’s anger had shut up His compassion (v.9). Because of this, Asaph could not sleep (v.2). God appeared to be keeping his eyelids open (v.4) without bringing the comfort his soul needed (v.2-3), although he had found that comfort in the past and appealed to it (v.5-6, 10). Despite his sleepless soul and troubled thoughts, what does Asap decide to do (v.11-12)? What does Asap declare about God’s way and God’s works (v.13-15)? How is the Lord wanting you to honestly confess your emotions, doubts, and confusion to Him? Through this holy confession, what does Asaph call us to remember as the year 2025 comes to an end? What does Asaph teach us to declare about God’s way and God’s works from 2025, as he declared about Jacob and Joseph, to keep us from spiritual slumber and troubled thoughts? How do we easily forget and abandon God’s wondrous works and redeeming arm?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.16-18] Asaph remembers the greatest wondrous work of God in splitting the Red Sea for the Israelites to cross over on dry ground as they were being chased by the Egyptian army. When all the Israelites had crossed over, a rainstorm caused the Egyptian chariot wheels to swerve (Exodus 14:25) and ultimately be drowned as the sea came back up to its depth. Through personification, what does Asap say the waters, clouds, and skies did when they saw God (v.16-17), and what it caused on the earth (v.18)? How can we see all of 2025 as how God saw it, and fear Him?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.19-20] Although it was Moses and Aaron who visibly led the Israelites through the Red Sea, whose invisible footprints ultimately brought their deliverance (v.19-20)? Where were unseen footprints of God that delivered you through 2025? How has the Lord shepherded you invisibly through visible footprints from 2025?

FEARLESS CHRISTMAS [part 2-final] “Do Not Fear, Joseph: Do as the Lord Commands” (MATTHEW 1:18-25)

(1.) [v.18-19] After Mary had been conceived by the power of the holy Spirit with the child Jesus Christ, she stayed with her elderly relative Elizabeth for three months (Luke 1:56) prior to returning home to Nazareth. It is here upon returning home that Mary likely tells her betrothed husband Joseph of her miraculous pregnancy from the holy Spirit and the angel Gabriel’s words to her. Now having been pregnant over three months, going into her second trimester, Mary could have well been showing a bump in her belly. As Mary was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit, what does her husband Joseph, as a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolve to do (v.19)? Although it appears Joseph’s actions are tender-hearted for Mary, how are they unrighteous actions before God? When have you resolved to do what makes sense to you but is nonsense before God? When have we acted to preserve our own righteousness without considering what is righteous before God? When have we resolved to act on fearing people instead of fearing God?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.20-23] As Joseph was considering to do these things, how did the Lord intervene to stop him (v.20)? In the dream, what does the angel say about the child in Mary’s womb (v.21)? Why was all this taking place (v.22-23)? How is the Lord redirecting what you are considering to do? How has God’s Word needed to be repeated to us multiple times for us to understand what the Lord’s will is, just as Joseph needed both Mary and this angel in his dream? The name “Immanuel” ( “God with us”) came at a time of disbelieving God was with His people. Where does the name “Immanuel” need to come into your season of confusion and fearful action?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.24-25] When Joseph woke from his sleep, what did he do (v.24-25)? If we have awakened from our spiritual slumber, what must we do without delay? What must we obey right now, this Christmas, out of gratitude and love for Jesus Christ?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Christmas season & December ministries

Scripture:

The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (MATTHEW 20:28)

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (GALATIANS 4:4-5)

For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. (1 THESSALONIANS 4:16-17)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this blessed Christmas resurrection Sunday. With the multitude of heavenly hosts that praised You on that night our Savior, Your only Son was born, we declare glory be to You in the highest, and on earth, on Hosanna and Bethany church families, peace be among us whom your favor and pleasure rests. Let us not fear to live fully for You, to submit fully to You, to walk surrender all before You. Let us not be afraid and fear the impossibilities of spiritual life You desire with us, as You did for Mary. Let us not be afraid and fear doing as You command to us for our joy and goodness, as You did for Joseph. Make us remember why Christ Jesus came – not to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many through the sufferings of the cross. You destined Your Son to shed His blood and die for the atonement of our sins. We thank You for this beautiful fullness of time that came, when You sent forth Your Son, born of woman as an earthly mother but unborn of any earthly father, for You are our Father in heaven, who has sent Your only Son to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption sons and daughters. May Christmas not only be about His birth and death, but equally His resurrection. Risen Lord Jesus, You will descend from heaven and we will be caught up together in the clouds to meet You in the air, to always be with You. Until then, be with our Christmas worship today, our breakout discussion groups, our breaking of bread, our baptism session with Mya, and her blessed baptism next Sunday. Be with us on Christmas Eve this Wednesday & Christmas day this Thursday in family gatherings and family worship. Be with our final Sunday of 2025 next week. Be with the Session as they gather next week. May all things be an awareness of Your presence being with us, God Immanuel, God with us in our Lord Jesus Christ, our newborn King’s name we pray, Amen & amen.

FEARLESS CHRISTMAS [part 1] “Do Not Fear, Mary: Nothing is Impossible with God” (LUKE 1:26-38)

(1.) [v.26-31] After God provided an impossible conception for Elizabeth who was barren and her unbelieving husband Zechariah in their elderly years (v.5-25), an even more impossible conception is promised for Mary in the middle of her betrothal/engagement period as an unmarried, young, and virgin woman. As the angel Gabriel greeted her as the Lord’s favored one, how did Mary feel about this greeting and how did the angel Gabriel comfort her (v.26-30)? How specifically did the angel Gabriel describe God’s promise to occur in her womb (v.31)? Like Mary’s betrothal/engagement period, how has God’s timing come at the most inconvenient and undesirable seasons of your life that appeared, at first glance, to ruin all of your plans? When God’s favored grace comes upon our lives, how do we react with worldly fear instead of humble faith? As Mary was assured with specific details of her miraculous conception, how have all the details of the gospel of Christ assured you in the womb of your heart that Jesus is with you and has graced you as His favored one?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.32-35] The name “Jesus” – which also is the equivalent of “Joshua/Yeshua/Yehoshua” in Hebrew, was a very common name during biblical times. Yet this child Jesus to be born in Mary’s womb would be unlike any common child born in human history. What does the angel Gabriel say that Jesus will be called and what Jesus will fulfill (v.32-33)? As Mary wondered how this impossible birth was to happen since she was still a virgin, how did the angel Gabriel describe how this will all happen (v.34-35)? Like Mary, how has Jesus Christ come into the womb of our lives, conceived in our hearts and minds? How has this not happened naturally, but spiritually by the power of the Holy Spirit?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.36-38] In addition to prophesying the specific details of this promise of Jesus, what sign does the angel Gabriel give to Mary, assuring her that all these things would take place for certain although appearing impossible (v.36-37)? How does Mary humbly surrender her whole self with godly faith (v.38)? How can you do the same today, although all appears impossible ahead of you?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Christmas Advent season & December ministries

Scripture:

And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. (LUKE 2:6-7)

And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. (MATTHEW 2:9-11)

And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (LUKE 2:10-11)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this 3rd week of holy Advent on the eve of Christmas Lord’s Day next Sunday. We eagerly wait to celebrate Your eternal Son’s first arrival and hope in His second coming, with exceeding and great joy, just as the wise men of the east did when they saw the star rise and go before them to rest over the place where the child Jesus was. We fall down to worship Christ Jesus as Lord again, offering our treasures and our lives to our humble newborn King, who was conceived by the holy Spirit in the womb of virgin Mary, as her firstborn son and wrapped in swaddling cloths to be laid where no King should be laid – in a manger for animal food, because there was no place in the inn. Yet find us, O Lord, to give you the highest place, the central place, the dwelling place of our lives as we fall down before Your manger. We worship with the angelic hosts, who told us not to fear, who brought us the good news of great joy that is for all the people, that unto us is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ Jesus the Lord! May that great joy of our newborn Lord be with us today in breakout discussion groups after-service, to our humble dishwashers as they serve, to our baptism orientation with sister Mya, to the great joy of our birthdays tomorrow for Kate and Minster Chao, and Jason on Tuesday, to our Christmas fellowship and gift exchange on Saturday, to next Sunday’s blessed Christmas Worship, advent candlelighting, youth & children’s Christmas presentations – may the joy of Christ Jesus our newborn King and Lord rest among us and fill us to overflow for the only true reason for this season, in the resurrected name of our humble King Jesus from the manger, to the cross, to the tomb, and back to the right hand of the Father in heaven, and to come again in glory, Amen & Amen.

Rev. James Cha was born in Pusan, Korea, and immigrated to the United States in the early 1970's with his family. While studying electrical engineering at Cornell University, he surrendered his life to the call of God to be His ambassador to the world, especially to the Muslim world. In 1991, he married his best friend, Faith, and after completing ministry training at Columbia Biblical Seminary in South Carolina and YWAM's Crossroads DTS Discipleship Training School in Kona, Hawaii, the Cha's took their three young children - Joniel, Josiah, and Karis - to Central Asia to serve the Lord as church planting missionaries. Since 2000, the Cha's have been back in the U.S. reaching out to the nations living in their community in Virginia. They are on staff with Crescent Project, a ministry that equips local churches to reach out to Muslims. “From Persecutor to Persecuted: The Increasing Strength, Provision, and Boldness in Christ” (ACTS 9:20-31)

(1.) [v.20-22] After Saul regained his sight through Ananias, was baptized, and regained his strength from food, what did he immediately start doing in Damascus (v.20)? How did all who hear him react (v.21)? Although Saul’s integrity was questioned, what did he increase in and keep doing (v.22)? How has your encounter with Jesus as resurrected Lord of your life immediately transformed an area of your life? What did you begin doing differently? Have others around your life noticed it? If you were in a court of law to be prosecuted as a “Christian,” would the jury find enough evidence in your life to convict you? Although your integrity in Christ may be questioned, how has the Lord strengthened you to endure? How have trials, hardships, and opposition against you proven to increase Christ in you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.23-25] Why couldn’t Saul stay too long in Damascus (v.23-24)? How did the Lord provide a way of escape (v.25)? How has Christ provided a way of escape for you from people, places, passions, and possessions that seek to harm you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.26-31] Saul escaped to Jerusalem, but was not welcomed by the disciples there. What act of Christ’s compassion did Barnabas do that allowed Saul to continue preaching boldly in Jerusalem for the time (v.26-28)? When a plot to kill Saul was discovered, what did the Jerusalem brothers do to protect Saul (v.29-30)? Through the ministry of Saul’s bold preaching of Jesus in Jerusalem, what began to spread, be built up, and multiply (v.31)? How can we become “Barnabas” to one another – sons and daughters of Christ’s encouragement – bringing one another to Jesus? What is God calling us to do to help Jesus be preached more boldly at Hosanna? How will Hosanna Church spread, be built up, and multiply?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Christmas Advent season & December ministries

Scripture:

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. (GALATIANS 4:4-5)

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. (MATTHEW 1:18)

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (MATTHEW 1:21)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this holy Advent season, as we wait to celebrate your eternal Son’s first arrival laid on a manger as our newborn King, to our indestructible hope in His second arrival on the clouds of heaven in power and glory. Lord Jesus, You are the reason for this holy season. Lord Jesus, You are Immanuel God with us. Iin the fullness of time, our Heavenly Father sent You forth, born of a woman, born by the seed of the holy Spirit, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons and daughters of God! What a glorious birth that took place this way! At the most shameful time during betrothal to Joseph, Lord Jesus You became flesh in the womb of Mary from the conception of the holy Spirit. You were born into this world as our Lord Jesus, the One who save us from our sins! We thank You, Jesus, for being true God of true God, and coming from heaven to earth as sinless man among all sinful men. Thank You for Your redeeming work on this 39th anniversary of our legacy Korean congregation of Bethany, 39 years of Your faithfulness that has birthed us as Hosanna Church into existence. Bless Bethany KPC, the Session, all the new Officers, Pastor Jang and all pastoral staff to continue collecting your great Harvest among the Korean immigrant people in Dallas. Lord, be with the staff gathering today, the Session gathering today, our dessert ministry today served by our faithful Deacons, our brother Aiden as he celebrates his birthday this Saturday, our kitchen ministry this Saturday and Sunday, and our Agape life group this Saturday. May You get Your great glory through these ministries! Keep our eyes on You, the shoot from the stump of Jesse, our branch and our root in whom we bear all good fruit, through our newborn King, Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & amen.

“Here am I, Lord: The Available, Teachable, and Commendable Disciple of Christ” (ACTS 9:10-19)

(1.) [v.10-12] While Saul was blinded by the light from heaven and led by the hand into Damascus, God had already prepared someone for him to meet in the city. Who was at Damascus (v.10)? How did the Lord call this disciple (v.10)? How did the disciple answer the Lord (v.10)? What did the Lord tell this disciple to do (v.11-12)? When the Lord calls us through His Word, His visions, His dreams, His Spirit, His orchestrated circumstances – He calls us by name as He did with Ananias. Have you heard your name being called by the Lord? Have you been listening and available to respond, “Here I am”? What has the Lord told you to do, especially in going to the difficult places to be and different people to forgive in your lives? How can you lay your prayerful hands on these places and people today? How is God calling you to be His instrument for that place or person to regain their spiritual sight?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.13-16] Although Ananias initially replied, “Here I am, Lord” – it appears his answer changes to “It is not for me, Lord” after hearing what he must do. How does Ananias answer the Lord’s command to go to Saul and lay prayerful hands on him (v.13-14)? How does the Lord correct Ananias’ view of Saul with the calling He has placed on Saul’s life (v.15)? In order to accomplish the call to carry His Name into all nations, what will the Lord show Saul (v.16)? How have we changed “Here I am, Lord” to “It’s not for me, Lord”? How has fear and evil won over faith and His goodness in me? How is the Lord asking you to do exactly the opposite of what you are thinking to do? How can your obedience by another’s blessing to be God’s chosen instrument to carry His name to the nations? What is it costing us to carry His name?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.17-19] When Ananias obeyed the Lord, what happened (v.17-19)? When we obey the Lord, how does the holy Spirit fill us? How do the scales fall from our eyes to regain spiritual sight? By the waters of our baptism, how are we assured forgiveness and strengthened to be numbered among the true disciples of Christ?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Christmas Advent season, Ventura family & December ministries

Scripture:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (ISAIAH 7:14)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (JOHN 1:14)

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (ISAIAH 9:6)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this advent season of the arrival of Your Son, our newborn King Jesus Christ, inviting Him as Lord over all of our lives. We stand in awe and amazement at Your sign of this through the prophet Isaiah 700 years prior to the birth of Christ. You are a promise-keeping God, to be hold the virgin conceive by the holy Spirit, to bear the Immanuel newborn King. Because Christ and the Spirit has come into the world, we know You as the God with us, the God who became flesh and dwelt among us. We have seen Your glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Although all earthly governmental authorities were against Him, You gave Him the Name above every name, that at the name of Jesus we can know You, through the Spirit, as our Wonderful Counselor, mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of peace. Refresh us this Christmas to keep Christ in Christmas, not becoming a holiday but a holy day. Through the Holy One and His healing hands, thank You, Lord Jesus, for healing our sister Jihoon’s legs from her fall. Bring the Ventura’s back safely to us from Korea in December. Be with our Deacons and Elders today as they plan and dream for the next ministry year. Bring overflowing joy in the Lord to sister Winnie on her birthday this Friday. Flourish our James life group gathering this Saturday. Bless the serving hands of our dessert ministry next Sunday. Strengthen our honored staff in their gathering next Sunday. Establish the work of our hands to be in step with Your heart and Kingdom and righteousness, through Christ Jesus our King whom we seek first as our first love and long for His second advent, Amen & amen.

“Transformational Joy” (PHILIPPIANS 1:1-11) by Minister Dr. Samantha Chao

(1.) [v.1-8] What did Minister Chao describe as the four key elements of a joyful community in Christ (v.3-8)? How can these four elements help us possess the joy of the Lord? How can you choose joy through these four elements today and every day?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.9-10] In what ways did Minister Chao encourage us to sacrificially abound more and more in love for Jesus and for one another, and what results from doing this (v.9-10)? How is sacrificing for Christ related to your spiritual gifts from Christ? What are your spiritual gifts that the Lord has entrusted to you to bless the body of Christ as a pleasing sacrifice unto Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.11] When we choose joy and are sacrificial for Christ’s community, what did Minister Chao express that we begin to pursue in God’s presence and His gospel (v.11)? What are the fruits of pursuing sanctification? How do you see the fruit of Christ’s righteousness, the fruits of the Spirit evident in your life? How can you pursue these fruits today instead of delaying them for later?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Thanksgiving season & Pastoral Journey (Minister Dr. Samantha Chao)

Scripture:

Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (PSALM 107:1)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we give thanks to You, for Your ways alone are good, for Your steadfast love endures forever for us in Your only Son our Lord Jesus Christ. By the power of the holy Spirit, we understand this, feel this, and live this out this Thanksgiving season. Make this Thanksgiving so much more than turkeys or family gatherings, nor worldly reasons to count what to be thankful for. Instead, lift our eyes upon You, whom all blessings flow and thanks should be given. You alone are the reason to be thankful in all circumstances, for this is Your will for us in Christ Jesus. With this, You are the ultimate reason for this season. You gave us this gift of giving thanks as the power to turn any circumstance on its head, and to find the delight of yet praising You, worshipping Christ no matter what enters our lives, teaching us the power to rejoice in You that becomes our strength. Strengthen us by the transformational joy You will show us in Philippians 1:1-11 today through Your servant Minister Chao. We thank You for calling her to Yourself, bringing her family to Hosanna, and equipping her with all the gifts to bring glory to You. Holy Spirit, preach Your Word through her to us. Inspire our hearts to love and obey Christ Jesus more in choosing Your joy, becoming sacrificial offerings for Your Church, and pursuing a holy sanctified life of spiritual fruits. We thank You for the partnership in the gospel with Minister Chao and all the holy servants of Hosanna, and trust You will bring it to completion at the day of Your Son’s return. In Jesus Christ’s resurrected name in whom our love for each other abounds more and more, through Christ we pray, Amen & amen.
