*2nd ANNIVERSARY WORSHIP SERVICE (9/21 [Sun]) SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER – Rev. Mark Story, Assistant Pastor, Highland Park Presbyterian Church of Dallas – Praise be to God for calling His servant to preach the Word on the special occasion of our 2nd Anniversary Worship Service! Pastor Mark has been a vital part of helping get Hosanna chartered into our denominational family as an official church, and has particularly done a lot of work in editing our bylaws. Rev. Mark Story grew up in San Angelo, Texas and has lived in Texas his whole life. He received an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. Pastor Mark is a “second career” pastor, practicing law in Dallas for almost 25 years before becoming the Executive Director of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas in 2004. He has been passionate about the ECO Presbyterian denomination from even before its official organization and Highland Park was among the first wave of churches to join. Pastor Mark served as Moderator of the ECO Presbytery in 2017 and currently is a member of the Ministry Partnership Team of the Presbytery. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary and proudly became ordained as an ECO Pastor just as he was winding down his career as Executive Director of Highland Park. He continues to serve as an Assistant Pastor at Highland Park on a voluntary basis. Mark and his wife, Bettie, have two grown daughters and five grandchildren. *Let us remember Pastor Mark in our prayers and be ready to receive God’s Word through him.

“Learn from Joseph, for God was with Him” (ACTS 7:9-16).

(1.) [v.9-10] What did the jealous brothers of Joseph do to him (v.9)? Even when Joseph was imprisoned in Egypt, who was with Joseph, just like what had happened to Abraham in Mesopotamia (v.9; see prior v.2)? How did God turn everything around for Joseph (v.10)? Why was Deacon Stephen preaching about Joseph in view of what has been happening to him, the apostles, as well as what had happened to the Lord Jesus Christ at His betrayal? Like God did for Joseph, how is God with me right now in my “Egypt”? Like He did for Joseph, how has Christ rescued me, given me favor and wisdom, and one day make me His co-heir reigning with Him as His servant over all His household?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.11-13] What did God do to show Joseph’s brothers the consequences for their sins in having sold their own brother out of their jealousy (v.11)? Even through His judgment, how was God preparing Joseph’s brothers in their travels to reconcile with Joseph (v.12)? Since his own brothers do not recognize him, what does Joseph do on their second visit (v.13)? How is God showing me the consequences for my sins to lead me into a humble confession of my sins? Even through judgment for sin, how is God preparing me to be reconciled to Him and to one another? Do I recognize who I sin against? Is it not just someone, but the Holy One of all?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.14-16] When Joseph forgave his brothers, what did he do that showed his desire for a complete reconciliation with his entire family (v.14)? Because of this family reunion and reconciliation under Joseph’s rulership, how did God grant Jacob a blessed life, including his final burial location (v.15-16)? How is Christ calling me not only to forgive, but also to restore and reconcile a broken relationship, if the power to do so depends on me? Because of my initiative in Christ to forgive, reunite and reconcile broken relationships, what kind of blessing awaits me?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Candidates for Ordained Office of Elder and Deacon.

Scripture:

And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed. (ACTS 14:23)

For an overseer, as God's steward, must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick-tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain, but hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it. (TITUS 1:7-9)

As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem. (ACTS 16:4)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the 2025-’26 candidates for your ordained offices of Deacon and Elder in Your beloved Church. We thank You, Holy Spirit, for guiding us through the season of nominations, putting forth the names of those whom You have called to Your precious harvest. We thank You for candidates Patrick Liu, Nara Jeng, Juhae Park, Jonathan Jeng, and the covenant term renewals of Deacons Chong Choe, Gloria Gee, and Waywah Gee, as well as the legacy of faithful office and service that Elder Heather leaves before us all. Father God, as we pray over the candidate profiles and prepare for the election next Sunday, help us to obey Your holy Spirit. As in the days of the New Testament Church, we appoint elders and deacons with prayer and fasting, committing them to You, Lord, in whom they have believed. For our future Session and Elders, we ask they continue to hold the biblical standard as Your steward, be above reproach, not arrogant or quick-tempered, nor a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain. But rather, but all our officers be hospitable, lovers of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. May they hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that they might be able to give instruction in sound doctrine to the congregation, as well as rebuke those who contradict it. We pray for the congregation to respect and observe the decisions of our Elders especially, and esteem them highly in love, so that Your Church might be put into godly order to grow in grace and peace, through our chief Elder and Overseer of our souls, Jesus Christ our Master we pray, Amen & amen.

“Be Sojourners for an Eternal Land” (ACTS 7:1-8).

(1.) [v.1-3] At that time, the holy temple and promised land were the only places known for God’s presence appearing to His people. Yet, when and where did Deacon Stephen claim the God of glory appearing (v.2)? At that time, what did God command when He appeared (v.3)? Where has God’s glorious presence first appeared in my life, even before I ever realized it? How have I confined God’s appearing to my earthly “temple” and “land,” only realizing Him in a certain location, time, or circumstance? When I am in God’s glorious presence, what does He command me to do, just as He commanded to Abraham?

(2.) [v.4-5] How did Abraham initially disobey God’s command to leave his homeland and his relatives to the land the Lord would show him (v.4)? When God finally moved Abraham out to His promised land, what did He not give him, and why (v.5)? How am I initially disobeying the Lord’s command to leave all behind and follow His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ? How is God teaching me not to rely on outward evidences or proofs or conditions, but wholly trust in His ways for my life? How is God keeping me from making an idol out of His blessings and promises, such as a child for Abraham?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.6-8] What did God purpose His people to be in His promised land – permanent citizens or temporary sojourners for an eternal life (v.6)? What was the covenant sign from the Lord to mark out His people, that He would be their God and they belonged to Him as His people? How am I living like a permanent resident on earth with a temporary citizenship in heaven, instead of a temporary residency on earth with a permanent home in heaven? What signs and marks do I have that I belong to creation instead of to Christ?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Candidates for Ordained Office of Elder and Deacon.

Scripture:

Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. (1 TIMOTHY 4:14)

For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. (2 CORINTHIANS 4:5)

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ (MATTHEW 25:21)

We thank You for candidates Patrick Liu, Chong Choe, Nara Jeng, Juhae Park, Jonathan Jeng, and the covenant term renewals of Deacons Gloria Gee and Waywah Gee, as well as the legacy of faithful office and service that Elder Heather leaves before us all. Father God, as we pray over the candidate profiles, help us to obey Your holy Spirit. For all the candidates and officers alike, help them not neglect the gift You have given to when the council of elders laid holy hands of prayer upon them. For all You will ordain, may they never proclaim themselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with them as Your servants for Jesus’ sake. Until that last day when we all, as faithful diakonos – deacons of the Lord, will be before You, may we hear the words of our Master, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.” Ordained and unordained alike, as we all serve together as servants of Master Jesus, may that joy be ours. May we all enter into this eternal joy of heaven, through the Ordainer and Caller of all His servants, Jesus Christ our Master we pray, Amen & amen.

“Gaze into the Face of Deacon Stephen, the Face of An Angel” (ACTS 6:8-15).

(1.) [v.8-10] What was Deacon Stephen full of, and what did it cause him to do among the people (v.8)? When some prideful debaters of that day rose to dispute the gospel with Stephen, what could they not do (v.10)? Recalling who Deacon Stephen was and how he was chosen to serve the complaints of God’s people, how does my character in serving Christ influence the fullness of His grace and power in me, or the emptiness of His grace and power in me? When the gospel is debated and disputed today, how does the Spirit help me to speak with such irresistible wisdom that no one can argue with it?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.11-14] Because the debaters could not win against Deacon Stephen, what tactic did they turn to (v.11-13)? What were they accusing Deacon Stephen of saying (v.14)? If I am truly filled with Christ’s grace and power and living as His wise diakonos (servant), should I be accepted in the world or opposed by the world? How is the holy Spirit giving me wisdom to speak truthfully, lovingly, and courageously to those who debate and dispute the gospel of Jesus Christ? Am I on the side of a debater against the gospel or a defender of the gospel? Like the debaters, how has one sin funneled down to committing many more sins in my life (bribery, lies, false witnesses)?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.15] Why were they all gazing at the face of Deacon Stephen? In times of crisis, hardship, misunderstanding, etc. how does the holy Spirit make our face reflect the perfect peace, glory, and fearless trust in Christ alone?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Candidates for Ordained Office of Elder and Deacon.

Scripture:

This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you— (TITUS 1:5)

Deacons likewise must be dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. (1 TIMOTHY 3:8-9)

Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (PHILIPPIANS 2:5-8)

Holy Spirit, continue to help us submit to You and obey Your leading and filling throughout this process. Be with the candidates and fill them with the fullness of Your Spirit, faith, wisdom, and humility as they prepare to take office. We know the reason why You have left us here in Carrollton and this particular body of Christ, so that we might put what remains in order for Your Church, and appoint elders as You directed us. Likewise, may all Your Deacons grow to be above-reproach, dignified, not double-tongued, not addicted to substances that will harm Your testimony and witness, not greedy for dishonest gain. May all Your servants hold to the mystery of the faith with a clear conscience. Above all, may we all have this mind among ourselves, which also was in Your only Son Jesus Christ. Just as He was true God yet did not consider His divine equality as a privilege to be used, may all our ordained officers never find their worth in their position or privileges to be grasped, but may they empty themselves to take the form of Your servant, humbling themselves to obedience as the Lord Jesus did, even obedient to death on a cross. We entrust these officers to You for another year of Your mighty hand on the move to do great things here at Hosanna, through King Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen & amen.

[v.1-2] When the disciples of Christ were increasing in number in those days, what arose to become such a problem that it reached the ears of the twelve apostles and made them consider giving up preaching the word of God (v.1-2)? In what ways have I raised complaints without serving to solve them? In what ways have my complaints hindered the ministry of prayer and preaching the Word of God? How can I move to solve complaints and grumblings arising in the church, rather than become part of them?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.3-6] How did the apostles go about fixing the problem of oversight in the daily distribution to the widows (v.3-4)? What were the qualities they looked for in choosing the seven table-servers (v.3-5)? How did they dedicate them to this ministry (v.6)? What defines and qualifies a true servant (deacon) of God? Is God primarily looking for ways I can serve Him with my talented services, or who I am before Him in my Christlike character? In what ways can I focus on my character more than my complaints, charisma in giftings, or what I can or cannot contribute in serving the Lord?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.7] What happened when the complaints were served and the apostles were able to fully devote themselves to the ministry of prayer and teaching the Word (v.7)? How can I help my spiritual leaders put their primary focus on the ministry of praying and teaching the Word of God to me and to others?

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. (JOSHUA 1:8)

For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the Lord, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel. (EZRA 7:10)

“Rejoice that You are Counted Worthy to Suffer Dishonor for His Name” (ACTS 5:34-42).

(1.) [v.34-37] How did Gamaliel – a respected teacher of the law and spiritual leader of that day – stand up against the rage and desire to kill the apostles by the temple leaders, and what example did he give for the temple leaders to consider? How has the holy Spirit stood up against my moments of rage or anger, and how has He brought calm and gentleness to bring me back to my senses? What are some examples in my own life that have brought damage, dispersion, and destruction due to uncontrolled rage and anger that was acted upon without a sound mind in Christ? How much more different is Jesus to me than Theudas or Judas the Galilean, both who came to be nothing?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.38-39] What was Gamaliel’s advice to the temple leaders in asking them to leave the apostles alone? How have I known a plan in my life has been the undertaking of my own invention or the movement of the plan of God? How have I been found opposing God instead of submitting to Him? How have I been found passive towards God instead of active on His mission?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.40-42] What did the temple leaders do before they released the apostles (v.40)? Yet, with what heart, mind, and action did the apostles leave their presence (v.41-42)? Even in dishonor and my suffering, how can I rejoice?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Ordained Spiritual Leadership.

Scripture:

For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. (LUKE 22:27)

For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. (GALATIANS 5:13)

Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. (EPHESIANS 5:21)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You once again this sacred season of raising Your next ordained servants in to Your offices of Elder and Deacon for the 2025-’26 year of our Lord Jesus Christ. Holy Spirit, thank You for guiding all those who casted a nomination, prayed and fasted for a potential candidate to office. We acknowledge it was You, Holy Spirit, who gave notification of a name, of a face, of a memory and moment of Christ-exuding character and conduct inspiring to meet the above-reproach qualifications to these blessed offices of Your Church. Lord Jesus, we acknowledge You are the Master, Shepherd, and Head of this particular Church, and You will choose through us those You desire to advance Your Kingdom work through Your Church for this appointed time. We thank You in advance that You have already chosen and called and equipped these Elders and Deacons for this next season. As You declared, Lord Jesus, you came among us as the one who serves tables instead of reclines at one. May these next servants be great because they are last. May they not use their freedom and authority to serve as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another in humility, compassion, and gentleness. May we, as both lay and ordained servants like, learn to submit to one another out of reverence for Christ and flourish Your peace in all circumstances, for we are all one in You and for Your Cause. Through our Suffering Servant and Chief Shepherd, Overseer, and lead example of eldership and deaconship, Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & amen.

*WELCOME to HOSANNA! – *Warmest welcome to all of you, especially if you are visiting or re-visiting! Please let our Welcoming Team give you our welcoming gift! Fill-out a yellow newcomer’s contact card so that we can keep in touch! We welcome you into this family of Christ’s loving arms and remain here for you as His body to grow and flourish together!

*HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY to our college brother Hogan Lee! – We praise God and thank God for you, and pray your studies at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth are advancing well in God’s grace. We pray all the Lee brothers (Scott, Yoojin, and Hogan) are well and miss you all very much in Christ!

*TODAY – LAST DAY TO NOMINATE! – NOMINATIONS FOR NEXT 2025-’26 CLASS OF ORDAINED OFFICERS (future Elders & Deacons) – NOMINATE THROUGH WEBPAGE LINKS! – for Deacon and Elder (click the links for detailed information on definition, roles & responsibilities). Nominate online at the bottom of webpage Nomination Form. *You should receive a verification email that your nomination was received well.
  • You may nominate yourself for Deacon or Elder
  • You may nominate another person that God puts in your heart for Deacon or Elder
  • Current Ordained Officers may nominate you
  • *To keep the integrity of this process as congregation-led, the Pastor has no nominating privileges/cannot cast a nomination
  • *To keep the integrity of this process, all submitters of nominations will be held in confidentiality and anonymity to the nominee
All nominated names will be collected, prayed over, and assessed by the current Session for candidacy. At the Session’s discretion, formal invitation letters to candidacy will be sent at an ongoing basis. *The last day to nominate yourself or someone else to ordained office is TODAY. ****All Covenant Partners of Hosanna Church are encouraged to submit a nomination! No submission of any nomination(s) either sends the message that we have not spent the adequate time to know our servant-leaders and do not know who ought to serve and lead us, or we do not desire anyone to serve and lead us, or we are careless as to who serves or leads us. All these are attitudes we want to avoid! Since the term for all current Ordained Officers (both Elders and Deacons) are ending or considering renewal, it is vital that we prayerfully nominate or re-nominate current Officers or new potential candidates as Officers of the Lord’s Church, getting to know who exemplifies the qualifies of ordained office, and prayerfully casting a nomination. **DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE VERY END AND FORGET TO DO THIS! Let us fulfill our covenant responsibilities in prayerfully discerning and nominating how the Lord leads us. If we do not serve ourselves, nor nominate anyone who can, then who will? Let us say with the prophet Isaiah, “Here I am, send me!” (ISAIAH 6:8). Thank you!

*CONGRATULATIONS TO ELDER PATRICK AND THE LIU FAMILY! – Elder Patrick’s brother – Lawrence Liu – got married last week in the northern California area. Lawrence has visited Hosanna a few times already. Thanks be to God for His providence in bringing together a godly wife and godly husband to multiply and reflect His image more brightly and clearer into the world! May the Lord bless and increase the Liu’s!

*TODAY – PASTORAL BREAK – The Session has encouraged, mandated, and ordered the Pastor to take the minimum 2-Sunday off break period. Pastor & family gladly submitted to the encouragement and are currently on break in the Houston area. They will miss today and return this Wednesday (7/30). Thank you to the congregation for the gracious break time.

*TODAY – SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER – In view of our Pastor and family taking a pastoral break, the Session has invited again Minister Dr. Will Zhao – Pastor Chester’s ECO pastoral ordination mentee –  to deliver the Word of God to us. Dr. Zhao currently serves as a resident church-planter at our sister-ECO Presbyterian congregation in the Dallas area, Highland Park Presbyterian Church and in their family of churches, one of which is the Highland Park Chinese Church, led by Rev. Ben Wang. Dr. Zhao has been with HPCC since 2015, and the congregation has grown to plant a new Chinese fellowship in Richardson, TX called the Solid Rock Fellowship, where Dr. Zhao also serves as its primary church-planter. Dr. Zhao was born and raised in China, where he studied and graduated with the Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Peking University in Beijing. He came to the Dallas area to pursue the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he was radically moved to trust in Jesus Christ and came to a saving knowledge of God’s love through Christians on the SMU campus who offered their fellowship and shared the gospel with him. Through this radical transformation of faith and encounter with Jesus, Dr. Zhao immediately gave up his doctoral studies in engineering and enrolled in seminary at Criswell College, where his calling to pastoral ministry began to grow. He graduated with the Master of Divinity degree in 2016, and then went on to Dallas Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 2023 with the Ph.D. degree in Old Testament studies, majoring in the wisdom literature of the Hebrew Bible (especially the books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Psalms, and Song of Songs). Currently, Dr. Zhao is a candidate for pastoral ordination in our ECO Presbyterian denomination for Ordained Minister/Reverend. *Thank you, Minister Zhao, for preaching to us the Word of God! Due to a Deacon training that Dr. Zhao needs to take part around noon, he will need to leave immediately after-service.

*TEXAS PRESBYTERY-WIDE CALL FOR PRAYER FOR HILL COUNTRY FLOOD CRISIS! – We are continuing a spirit of fasting and prayer for the flood disaster as our Texas Presbytery leaders have called for us to do as ECO Presbyterian churches. *Continue this week to fast at least one meal and pray for all the grieving families, those who are still missing, the heroic first responders still searching, and all the churches who incurred great damage from this disaster. The Session will donate through the appropriate channels to help with relief efforts.

*HOSANNA INTERCESSORY PRAYER (HIP) TEAM! – Do you have a passion for prayer, collecting confidential and public prayer requests, and interceding prayerfully for one another and the mission of Hosanna Church? We are excited to create our first-ever HIP (Hosanna Intercessory Prayer) team – a group of prayer warriors who collect & organize prayer requests, are a constant stream of prayer before Father God, and meet occasionally to pray for the church. *KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Minister Dr. Will Zhihui Zhao’s pastoral calling, ordination, and church-planting work with Highland Park Chinese Church and Solid Rock Fellowship in Richardson, Texas.

Scripture:

Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. (ACTS 20:28)

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (1 PETER 5:2-3)

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. (ACTS 2:42)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we again take a moment to lift-up to You the ongoing crisis of the Hill country flooding. Wipe away every tear from the hundreds of grieving families, bring Your comforting peace that surpasses understanding, and strengthen the first responders still working in the flood wreckage. Let every soul be found in You. Today, we lift-up to You Minister Will Zhao, whom You have brought to us again to deliver Your words. Thank You for calling him, saving him, and leading him to the joyful obedience of preparation and pastoring Your flock. Holy Spirit, You are raising Minister Zhao as Your overseer, to care for Your Church, which You obtained with Your own blood. May he shepherd the flock of the Chief Shepherd that is among him, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as You would have him. Not for shameful gain, but eagerly. Not domineering over those you will put under his charge, but being the example of Christ to the flock. Lord, may Solid Rock Fellowship and Highland Park Chinese congregation be continually devoted to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Through the gentle, compassionate, yet uncompromising shepherding work of Minister Zhao, may they flourish in Your Holy Spirit. From start to finish, guide Your servant through this ordination journey and anoint him to overflow with power from on high, filled with the Spirit, for the pastoral ministry now and all that You have planned ahead. Through the Chief Shepherd, Lead Servant and Suffering Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen & amen.

*DISMISSAL of children (kinder to 5th grade) to Children’s Ministry and Youth Group to Bible study + Lunch! – At this time, children from kindergarten to 5th grade can head over to Minister Sewon Cho’s children’s ministry – please proceed to the children’s chapel down the hallway to the left! And youth group can head to your Bible study and lunch hour with Rev. Sooyoung Song. *Preschool worship children should already be in the preschool worship room with Director Rachel, and will continue to begin simultaneously at 10:30am in the preschool worship room.

*FINAL WEEK REMAINING TO NOMINATE! UNTIL JULY 26th – NOMINATIONS FOR NEXT 2025-’26 CLASS OF ORDAINED OFFICERS (future Elders & Deacons) – NOMINATE THROUGH WEBPAGE LINKS!
*The last day to nominate yourself or someone else to ordained office will be Saturday, July 26, 2025. Thank you!

*NEXT SUNDAY (7/27) – The Session has encouraged, mandated, and ordered the Pastor to take the minimum 2-Sunday off break period. Pastor & family gladly submit to the encouragement and will take next Sunday as a break for a time to reflect and be restored to the Lord with family. Pastor and family will be in the Houston area. Thank you to the congregation for the gracious break time.

*NEXT SUNDAY (7/27) SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER – In view of our Pastor and family taking a pastoral break, the Session has invited again Minister Dr.

As of today, 134 are deceased (including many young children) and 101 persons still remain missing (including young children). *For the remainder of this week, fast at least one meal and pray for all the grieving families, those who are still missing, the heroic first responders still searching, and all the churches who incurred great damage from this disaster.

See Elder Patrick to join this vital ministry of Hosanna!

*UPCOMING NEXT WEEK –

  • 7/27 (Sun) PASTORAL BREAK & GUEST PREACHER: Minister Dr. Will Zhao, Solid Rock Fellowship
  • 7/27 (Sun) SESSION+DEACONS gathering, 1:15pm at Corner Conference Room

*TODAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – Today, spend some time in your group tables (group# found in the note page of your bulletin) and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “For the Second Time, Obey God Alone as His Witness with the Holy Spirit” (ACTS 5:21-33).

(1.) [v.21-25] The apostles were supposed to be in the public prison where the jealous priestly leaders put them, yet in great perplexity where did they find the apostles the next day and what were they doing (v.25)? Am I remaining lock-up in the place where Satan expects me to be? How has the Holy Spirit freed me to be where He desires for me, and continue doing what He’s called me to do? How can I be found missing where the world expects me to be, and ever-present where the Spirit of God has placed me to be?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.26-28] Humiliated and embarrassed, the temple leaders and priestly leaders bring the apostles back to them from their apparent jailbreak. Instead of humbly being in fear of God, who were they more afraid of (v.26)? Instead of repenting and receiving the message of the apostles, what do they double-down on saying (v.28)? Am I more afraid of being hurt in the sight of people rather than being eternally judged in the sight of God? What am I doubling-down on that is increasing a spirit of hard-heartedness towards the life-saving blood of Jesus? Is His blood on my hands, yet not in my heart?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.29-33] Peter and the apostles have been arrested before (see ACTS 4:21). This being the second time, how do they reply to the priestly leaders as they did similarly during their first arrest (see ACTS 4:19)? For the second time, or third, or fourth… how am I being prepared to obey Christ alone as His witness?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership

Scripture:

Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. (HEBREWS 13:7)

I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service (1 TIMOTHY 1:12)

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (EPHESIANS 2:10)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we first take a moment again to lift-up to You the over one-hundred and thirty souls who have been taken from the Hill country flooding, as well as the over one-hundred souls still missing, the hundreds of grieving families that are mourning for their children, parents, relatives, and grandparents they now must press on without. We especially pray for the families who are grieving the passing of their children. Wipe away their tears, and help them know You are near and with them. By the power of the gospel, bring the hope of Your resurrected life, that we will all see You and one another again, and what a day of rejoicing in Your Son that will be! Continue to strengthen the first responders in the flood wreckage, and let every soul be found in You. Again, we lift-up to You this final week of nominations. We remember our ordained leaders who spoke to us the Word of God. We consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. We thank You for giving us strength in Christ, judging us faithful and appointing us to Your service in all the varied ways of Your Church. Remind us we are Your masterpiece and workmanship, created in Christ for the good works You prepared in advance for us to walk in. Choose Your choice ordained leaders for 2025-26 ministry year. We trust in Your Holy Spirit’s guidance into all truth, through the only way, truth, and life Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & amen.

*TEXAS PRESBYTERY-WIDE CALL FOR PRAYER FOR HILL COUNTRY FLOOD CRISIS! – Our Texas Presbytery Stated Clerk, Elder Hardie Morgan (Grace Presbyterian Church, Houston) and Presbytery Moderator Rev. Wayne Urbanowski (Senior Pastor, Leon Springs Presbyterian Church, San Antonio) have called for a time of mourning and prayer for flooding that took so many lives, especially young children. Our sister-ECO Presbyterian congregation in Dallas – Highland Park Church have at least three families who are grieving the homegoing of their daughters who were attending Camp Mystic, where the floodwaters hit the hardest. *For this week, fast at least one meal and pray for all the grieving families, those who are still missing, the heroic first responders still searching, and all the churches who incurred great damage from this disaster. Let us heed the message of Presbytery Moderator Rev. Urbanowski –
  • “The tragic flooding in the Texas Hill Country has brought suffering upon us. Lives have been lost, families have been changed, and properties have been destroyed. Churches in and beyond the Hill County have suffered great losses. A time of mourning and grieving is upon us. While addressing the unity shared within the different pieces of the body of Christ, Paul wrote these words, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it” (1 Cor. 12:26). In this time of painful uncertainty, let us not only grieve with our brothers and sisters, but let us be mighty in prayer on their behalf.  Let us keep our ears and hearts open to ways GOD may call us to extend the mercy and love of Christ to those in need.”

*WELCOME NEW COVENANT PARTNERS! – The Ventura family: Jason, Jihoon, and daughter Elena! Welcome this precious family God created and sent to us! Get to know the Ventura’s with the love of Jesus Christ!

*CRY ROOM SPEAKERS ARE WORKING AGAIN!
– One of the attached-ceiling speakers in the rear Cry Room of the Chapel is working, so those who customarily utilize the room can do so again and join our live worship service. The speaker nearest to the door is still not working, but the one speaker that is functioning correctly is more than sufficient to hear well. We apologize again for any disturbance to worship. *The Preschool Worship Room also livestreams the worship service from the flat-screen TV. Utilize any of these avenues to enhance your worship for the Lord!

*PASTORAL BREAK – SUNDAY (7/27) – The Session has encouraged, mandated, and ordered the Pastor to take the minimum 2-Sunday off break period. Pastor & family will take the end of July weekend for a time with family. Thank you to the congregation for the gracious break time.

*UPCOMING NEXT WEEK
–
  • 7/19 (Sat) JAMES families life group, 4:00pm-7:00pm at Ezra Chapel
  • 7/20 (Sun) STAFF gathering, 1:15pm at Corner Conference Room

*TODAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – Today, spend some time in your group tables (group# found in the note page of your bulletin) and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Even with Your Shadow, Release All the Words and Works of Life” (ACTS 5:12-21a).

(1.) [v.12-13] Many miraculous signs and wonders were regularly done by the hands of the apostles, but did all those who witness them join the Church (v.13a)? Although they dared not to join the New Testament Church, how did they view these Christians (v.13b)? Although Christ regularly shows me that He is the miraculous sign and wonder of my salvation, how have I not fully joined in His work and His Church? How am I esteeming and honoring followers of Jesus without being one myself?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.14-16] Although a certain “rest” of the people dared not join the believers, what continued to happen (v.14)? In particular, how exponentially did the influence of Christ’s miraculous signs and wonders through the apostle Peter grow among those who were sick (v.15-16)? How is the Lord desiring to bring not just some, but multitudes of both men and women, infant to elderly, to Jesus through me despite some who walk away from this mission? How does Christ want to exponentially grow my influence for Him, so that even my shadow that falls on some may bring the healing touch of His powerful life?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.17-21a] Although the spiritual leaders of the day arrested the apostles out of jealousy for their spiritual power, what happened (v.19)? What did they continue to do, just as the angel of the Lord instructed (v.20-21)? How is Christ’s influence through me opening imprisoned souls? How must I press on in this?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership

Scripture:

And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men and women, who will be able to teach others also. (2 TIMOTHY 2:2)

Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. (ROMANS 12:6-8)

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. (HEBREWS 13:17)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we first take a moment to lift-up to You the over one-hundred grieving families who have lost their loved ones, precious young daughters, parents, siblings, those who are still missing, and the first responders still searching the flood wreckage. We mourn especially for the little children. Father, receive them into Your everlasting arms, and wipe away the tears of all the grieving parents. Restore unto them the hope of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, how we will all be together at that glorious last day. Until then, raise up Your chosen servants, especially the new class of 2025-’26 ordained spiritual officers of your beloved Church. Father, we continue the nominations with prayerful hearts, having heard from Your apostle Paul to entrust the gospel to faithful men and women able to teach others. Reveal to us our spiritual gifts, so that we might use them to serve, to teach, to exhort, to contribute, to lead, to act in Your mercy. Let us obey our spiritual leaders and humbly submit to them out of reverence for Christ. Let us progress in these nominations with joy in fulfilling our covenant partnership responsibilities to Your beloved Church. In the name of our Chief Elder, Chief Deacon, and Head Pastor Jesus Christ, Amen & amen!

“Tell the Whole Truth and Give Your Whole Self to the Holy Spirit” (ACTS 5:1-11).

(1.) [v.1-6] Like Barnabas did earlier, Ananias and his wife Sapphira wanted to sell their property too and give all the proceeds to the apostles. However, unlike Barnabas did, how differently did they go about doing this (v.1-2)? By doing this, who did they lie to (v.3-4)? What happened to Ananias – the husband – when his scheme was uncovered (v.5-6)? How am I “keeping back” what the Holy Spirit is asking to be giving all? By doing so, how am I appearing Christlike, when I am really not? By being dishonest with myself, who am I really lying to? How can I fear God instead of fear being uncovered/exposed?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.7-8] Like her husband Ananias did, what did Sapphira claim when asked about the price of the land that was sold (v.7-8)? How am I saying “yes” when I should really be saying “no”? Like He did to Sapphira, how is the Holy Spirit giving me a second chance to be honest before Him?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.9-11] According to Peter, what was Ananias and Sapphira doing to the Spirit of the Lord (v.9)? When confronted with the truth, what happens to Sapphira, just as what happened to her husband Ananias (v.10)? What came upon the whole church who heard these things (v.11)? How am I testing the Spirit of the Lord by keeping back what I should be giving all – my heart, my resources, my giving, my time, my love? Am I more fearful of being discovered by people or by God who can instantly demand my life back?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership

Scripture:

Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. (1 TIMOTHY 4:14)

The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (1 TIMOTHY 3:1-3)

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (1 PETER 5:1-4)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the new class of 2025-’26 Hosanna ordained spiritual officers of your beloved Church. As we begin the nominations and prayer period today, guide us into Your heart, Your choice, and Your calling for ourselves and those you want to encourage to step up in spiritual maturity to serve, rather than to be served, just like the Son of Man and Son of God came to do as a ransom for many. Father, You created our highest pleasure to be humble servants of our Creator instead of addicted servant-slaves to creation. May the role of servanthood in Deaconship, and shepherdship in Eldership, be the natural progression of a maturing walk with Your Son, as we learn to shine His image brighter and more faithfully into a dark and depraved Church and world. Let us not neglect the gift you have given us by those who have prayed for us and laid their prayerful hands on us. Let us aspire to the noble office of Deacon and Elder to grow our godly Christlikeness, manifesting before others the true character of Christ. Grow followers into servants, and servants into commissioned officers who suffer well with Christ in overseeing His flock, so that we might partake in His glory to be revealed, until our Chief Elder, Chief Deacon and Shepherd appears with our crown of glory, Jesus Christ, Amen & amen!

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the Honduras short-term mission trip.

Scripture:

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (ACTS 1:8)

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (ROMANS 10:13-15)

And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (MATTHEW 24:14)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the 2025 Honduras mission starting tomorrow. Send us out alongside the team members, with our prayerful hearts. We lift up to You Rev. Hyun Koo Kang, Rev. Isaiah Lee, Rev. Sooyoung Song, Minister Sewon Cho, Elder Andrew Lee, Elder Don Ko, Deacon Tiffany Jang, Deacon Soon-Jung Huh, Deacon Soong-Ryong Jung, Deacon Jae-In Roh, Deacon Won-Young Kim, Deacon Dongtaek Lee, Yena Kim, Yesung Chae, Jungho Lee, and Youngho Lee. Father God, prepare these beautiful feet to bring Your beautiful news of Christ. Guide them with Your holy Spirit to serve humbly in godly unity. Prepare the hearts of the Honduran families and children to receive their VBS ministry and medical services. Open the hearts of the Hondurans to Your message and the demonstration of Your love through the team. Help the team work well together with local churches and school facilities where they will minister. Bear much good fruit each day they are there. Prolong the hours where Your Spirit can move souls to salvation. Keep the team healthy and bring them back safely, having accomplished all their scheduled ministry. Help them remember Your precious missionary work after returning to be a stronger witness of Christ’s resurrection. Even more than having served, may You, Holy Spirit, serve them in opening their eyes to all You are doing all over Honduras and beyond. May the gospel be proclaimed and advanced because of this beloved Honduras mission, through the Savior and King of the Honduran people, Jesus Christ, Amen & amen.
