Rev. Brian Hsieh, Associate Pastor, English Ministry of Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church, Plano, TX. Rev. Brian Hsieh grew up in the Tampa Bay area in Florida. During his studies at the University of Florida, he had the opportunity to serve on campus, and help in the youth and children ministries at a local church. It was during this time that the Lord gave him a passion for full-time ministry, and upon graduating, he moved to Dallas to attend seminary at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received the Master of Theology degree in 2011. From 2010-2020, Pastor Brian served as youth and then English Pastor at Plano Chinese Alliance Church. He joined the staff at Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church in 2022. Brian is married to Nelly, and together they have a daughter, Emery. Their hope and heart in serving in the Chinese church is that while language and culture may be the common ground that initially brings us together, it would be superseded by our new identity in Christ as believers. *Let us remember Pastor Brian in our prayers and be ready to receive God’s Word through him. *ALL-CONGREGATION PRAYERS – As Scripture commands us, let us pray for one another, especially those who are sick/ill physically among us (JAMES 5:14-15; 3 JOHN 1:2) as well as special topics needing our attentive intercession.

“See the Heavens Opened, with Christ’s Standing Ovation” (ACTS 7:54-60) (1.) [v.54-56] After Deacon Stephen finished his sermon, how did his hearers respond (v.54)? Despite their response, what filled Deacon Stephen and what did his eyes see as he gazed into heaven (v.55-56)? According to the prophecy about Jesus in Psalm 110:1, is Jesus normally sitting or standing at the right hand of the Father God? Why was the Lord Jesus standing instead of sitting? Like Deacon Stephen, if you were to gaze into heaven and see the glory of God, would Jesus be sitting or standing at seeing your life and testimony for Him? How is the Holy Spirit moving you to live for the applause and standing ovation of Christ instead of this world? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.57-58] When the council heard Deacon Stephen speaking of Christ’s standing ovation at his sermon, what did they do (v.57-58)? What did those who witnessed the stoning of Deacon Stephen do with their garments, acknowledging the person who was overseeing and approving the execution (v.58)? We focus a lot about living well for the glory of Christ, but how can we prepare to die well for the glory of Christ? How can your death as a matured person in Christ be the birth of a young Saul/Paul for Christ? How can your faithful witness for Christ be another’s life transformation in Christ? By our temporal lives, how can we influence and raise the next generation of the apostle Paul’s, Pastors, Elders, Deacons, Worship leaders, etc? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.59-60] As they were stoning Deacon Stephen, what two requests did he call out to the Lord Jesus to do (v.59-60)? After Deacon Stephen said these things, how is his death described (v.60)? How are you holding the wounds of those who sinned against you? Have you forgiven them, turning your wounds into scars? In Christ, how is death like falling asleep and then to wake back up again? How are we never going to die? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

*PRAISE SONGS for this SUNDAY! – Practice them and be ready to sing them on Sunday morning. Praise on, brothers and sisters! (1) What an Awesome God; (2) Song of the Saints; (3) Holy Spirit Have Your Way *THIS SUNDAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – This Sunday, spend some time in your group tables and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Listen to the Holy Spirit, for His Dwelling Place is in You” (ACTS 4:44-53). (1.) [v.44-46] Before any temple was built by king Solomon, how did God direct Moses the way He desired to dwell with His people (v.44)? This mobile tent (also known as the “tabernacle”) contained the Ark of the Covenant, with the tablets of the Ten Commandments, a jar of manna that God miraculously provided as food in the desert, and Aaron’s rod that budded (see the book of Numbers 17) which reminded the people of God’s priestly appointment and authority on Aaron and his priestly descendants. This mobile tent was called the “tent of witness” or “tent of testimony.” How did this tent give testimony and witness to God’s presence? Until when did God’s people carry this tent with them (v.45)? God did not ask for a greater dwelling place than a tent. Rather, who desired to find and make a more permanent dwelling (v.46)? It is easy to dwell with God on Sunday, being a “Sunday Christian.” Yet equally, how is God calling us to be “Monday Christians” too? How have we limited a worshipful life in Christ to only a time, location, season… when our God is a mobile tent, traveling with us everywhere with His testimony through our lives? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.47-50] Although king Solomon built a temple for God, did God dwell there (v.47-48)? According to Isaiah 66:1-2, why can’t God dwell in an earthly house made by hands (v.49-50)? What is in possession of your hands, being made with your hands, being praised by your hands that you think God is finding His dwelling place in? What earthly house are you building that God is not residing in? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.51-53] Instead of an earthly house, God chose a mobile tent. He still dwells in a mobile way through our ears, minds, hearts, and obedient action. How does He dwell like this (v.51-53)? How do you need to receive instead of resist what the holy Spirit is saying to you? How is God calling you to obey instead of obstruct His law? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

“The Inaugural Address for the Kingdom of God” (LUKE 4:14-30). (1.) Looking back to the last two years of Hosanna Church, what are some praises to God we can give for His glorious grace? Looking ahead into our third year of life as a church, what hopes, dreams, and visions is the holy Spirit stirring in your heart to have for Hosanna? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.14-21] According to the words of Jesus as he read from the scroll of Isaiah chapter 61, what did Pastor Mark emphasize as Jesus’ inaugural address for the Kingdom of God? How could Jesus claim that He fulfilled all of those promises in their hearing? As Hosanna inaugurates another 3rd year of life, how is God desiring His Kingdom in heaven to come down more powerfully upon north Dallas on the earth through Hosanna? How is the Lord Jesus calling Hosanna to proclaim Christ as the fulfillment of the good news of the gospel – liberty, recovery, and the Lord’s favor? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.22-30] Did the synagogue congregants at Nazareth accept Jesus’ message? How did they end up responding to Jesus when He claimed His message would only be accepted by those outside of Israel, just as the prophets were sent only to minister to those outside of Israel? How can Hosanna welcome and receive more of Jesus into the new year, especially those whom He seeks for outside our comfortable spheres of friendships and relationships? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

“Do Not Refuse the One that the Lord Sends to You” (ACTS 7:30-43). (1.) [v.30-34] Deacon Stephen continues his sermon by putting the focus back on Moses, refuting the charge that he had been speaking against Moses or trying to change the customs of God’s law that Moses had delivered to them. Deacon Stephen’s exodus narrative reveals who the real rejectors of Moses were, for Moses was first rejected by their spiritual forefathers (the Israelites), whom they claimed to be aligned with. Likewise, by rejecting Moses, they were rejecting the greater prophet over Moses – Jesus Christ. How did God appear to Moses (v.30-33)? Out of seeing the affliction of His people, what did God promise to do (v.34)? How have you lost the sense of God’s holiness, keeping your sandals on instead of taking them off? Does Christ see all your afflictions? If God is the ultimate Deliverer of Egypt, why does He want to send you to your Egypt? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.35-38] How was Moses mocked yet magnificently used by God (v.35-36)? How did Moses keep away from glorifying himself, pointing to a greater reality of a perfect Prophet and Deliverer (v.37)? What did Moses receive on Mount Sinai that showed the perfect holiness of God (v.38)? How is God magnificently doing His work through you despite the wilderness seasons? How is God raising up your life to point to the glory of His Son’s life? How has the holiness of God’s Word come alive to you, like the living oracles given to Moses? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.39-43] Instead of obeying Moses, what did the forefathers do (v.39-41)? How did God respond to this refusal of the one He had sent (v.42-43)? When refusing to obey Christ, what “Egypt” do you turn to? Do you fear the judgment and discipline of refusing Christ? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

“Understand Jesus is the New and Greater Moses” (ACTS 7:17-29). (1.) [v.17-19] Deacon Stephen had been accused of speaking against Moses, the law that God gave through Moses, and changing the customs of that law delivered to Moses. To refute this claim, Deacon Stephen’s sermon begins to focus on the One who is better and greater than Moses – Jesus Christ. What promise was drawing near (v.17; look back to verse 6-7)? Like the evil of King Herod in the days of Jesus, who arose as the evil in the days of Moses (v.18)? How was Pharaoh’s actions like King Herod who sought to find and kill Jesus as a child (v.19)? What promise of deliverance is Christ desiring to bring near to you that you have not been able to break free from for many years? What kind of evil has arisen in our day? How is Christ and the life He produces in both infants and the new birth through faith being threatened in our day? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.20-22] Just as Jesus was a pleasure in Father God’s sight and was preserved from life-threatening danger, how did God take pleasure at the birth of Moses and protect the infant Moses (v.20-21)? Just as Jesus was “mighty in deed and word” (LUKE 24:19), what was Moses mighty in as he was raised in the wisdom of the Egyptians? (v.22)? The name “Moses” means “drawn from the water,” as Pharaoh’s daughter pulled Moses out of the Nile River, adopting him as her own son. How has Christ pulled you out of the waters of hopelessness and death, to adopt you into God’s covenant family as a child of God? What mighty words and deeds of the Lord Jesus is being instructed to you? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.23-29] How did Moses’ attempt to save his own people by his own hand fail (v.23-29)? Unlike Moses, how did Jesus succeed in saving us by His own hand? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

Brian Hsieh Associate Pastor, English Ministry of Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church, Plano, TX – Praise be to God for calling His servant to preach the Word at our 2025 “Lift Up Your Eyes” Fall Retreat! *2nd ANNIVERSARY WORSHIP SERVICE (9/21 [Sun]) SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER – Rev. Pastor Mark is a “second career” pastor, practicing law in Dallas for almost 25 years before becoming the Executive Director of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas in 2004. He has been passionate about the ECO Presbyterian denomination from even before its official organization and Highland Park was among the first wave of churches to join. Pastor Mark served as Moderator of the ECO Presbytery in 2017 and currently is a member of the Ministry Partnership Team of the Presbytery. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary and proudly became ordained as an ECO Pastor just as he was winding down his career as Executive Director of Highland Park. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Learn from Joseph, for God was with Him” (ACTS 7:9-16). (1.) [v.9-10] What did the jealous brothers of Joseph do to him (v.9)? Even when Joseph was imprisoned in Egypt, who was with Joseph, just like what had happened to Abraham in Mesopotamia (v.9; see prior v.2)? How did God turn everything around for Joseph (v.10)? Why was Deacon Stephen preaching about Joseph in view of what has been happening to him, the apostles, as well as what had happened to the Lord Jesus Christ at His betrayal? Like God did for Joseph, how is God with me right now in my “Egypt”? Like He did for Joseph, how has Christ rescued me, given me favor and wisdom, and one day make me His co-heir reigning with Him as His servant over all His household? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.11-13] What did God do to show Joseph’s brothers the consequences for their sins in having sold their own brother out of their jealousy (v.11)? Even through His judgment, how was God preparing Joseph’s brothers in their travels to reconcile with Joseph (v.12)? Since his own brothers do not recognize him, what does Joseph do on their second visit (v.13)? How is God showing me the consequences for my sins to lead me into a humble confession of my sins? Even through judgment for sin, how is God preparing me to be reconciled to Him and to one another? Do I recognize who I sin against? Is it not just someone, but the Holy One of all? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.14-16] When Joseph forgave his brothers, what did he do that showed his desire for a complete reconciliation with his entire family (v.14)? Because of this family reunion and reconciliation under Joseph’s rulership, how did God grant Jacob a blessed life, including his final burial location (v.15-16)? How is Christ calling me not only to forgive, but also to restore and reconcile a broken relationship, if the power to do so depends on me? Because of my initiative in Christ to forgive, reunite and reconcile broken relationships, what kind of blessing awaits me? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

(1) Your Grace is Enough; (2) 10,000 Reasons; (3) Before the Throne of God Above *THIS SUNDAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – This Sunday, spend some time in your group tables and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Be Sojourners for an Eternal Land” (ACTS 7:1-8). (1.) [v.1-3] At that time, the holy temple and promised land were the only places known for God’s presence appearing to His people. Yet, when and where did Deacon Stephen claim the God of glory appearing (v.2)? At that time, what did God command when He appeared (v.3)? Where has God’s glorious presence first appeared in my life, even before I ever realized it? How have I confined God’s appearing to my earthly “temple” and “land,” only realizing Him in a certain location, time, or circumstance? When I am in God’s glorious presence, what does He command me to do, just as He commanded to Abraham? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.4-5] How did Abraham initially disobey God’s command to leave his homeland and his relatives to the land the Lord would show him (v.4)? When God finally moved Abraham out to His promised land, what did He not give him, and why (v.5)? How am I initially disobeying the Lord’s command to leave all behind and follow His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ? How is God teaching me not to rely on outward evidences or proofs or conditions, but wholly trust in His ways for my life? How is God keeping me from making an idol out of His blessings and promises, such as a child for Abraham? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.6-8] What did God purpose His people to be in His promised land – permanent citizens or temporary sojourners for an eternal life (v.6)? What was the covenant sign from the Lord to mark out His people, that He would be their God and they belonged to Him as His people? How am I living like a permanent resident on earth with a temporary citizenship in heaven, instead of a temporary residency on earth with a permanent home in heaven? What signs and marks do I have that I belong to creation instead of to Christ? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

(1) How Great Thou Art; (2) Here I Am to Worship; (3) Nothing But the Blood of Jesus *THIS SUNDAY’S BREAKOUT DISCUSSION GROUPS after-service in the gymnasium cafeteria – This Sunday, spend some time in your group tables and share the life of the preached Word. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Gaze into the Face of Deacon Stephen, the Face of An Angel” (ACTS 6:8-15). (1.) [v.8-10] What was Deacon Stephen full of, and what did it cause him to do among the people (v.8)? When some prideful debaters of that day rose to dispute the gospel with Stephen, what could they not do (v.10)? Recalling who Deacon Stephen was and how he was chosen to serve the complaints of God’s people, how does my character in serving Christ influence the fullness of His grace and power in me, or the emptiness of His grace and power in me? When the gospel is debated and disputed today, how does the Spirit help me to speak with such irresistible wisdom that no one can argue with it? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.11-14] Because the debaters could not win against Deacon Stephen, what tactic did they turn to (v.11-13)? What were they accusing Deacon Stephen of saying (v.14)? If I am truly filled with Christ’s grace and power and living as His wise diakonos (servant), should I be accepted in the world or opposed by the world? How is the holy Spirit giving me wisdom to speak truthfully, lovingly, and courageously to those who debate and dispute the gospel of Jesus Christ? Am I on the side of a debater against the gospel or a defender of the gospel? Like the debaters, how has one sin funneled down to committing many more sins in my life (bribery, lies, false witnesses)? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.15] Why were they all gazing at the face of Deacon Stephen? In times of crisis, hardship, misunderstanding, etc. how does the holy Spirit make our face reflect the perfect peace, glory, and fearless trust in Christ alone? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

[v.1-2] When the disciples of Christ were increasing in number in those days, what arose to become such a problem that it reached the ears of the twelve apostles and made them consider giving up preaching the word of God (v.1-2)? In what ways have I raised complaints without serving to solve them? In what ways have my complaints hindered the ministry of prayer and preaching the Word of God? How can I move to solve complaints and grumblings arising in the church, rather than become part of them? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.3-6] How did the apostles go about fixing the problem of oversight in the daily distribution to the widows (v.3-4)? What were the qualities they looked for in choosing the seven table-servers (v.3-5)? How did they dedicate them to this ministry (v.6)? What defines and qualifies a true servant (deacon) of God? Is God primarily looking for ways I can serve Him with my talented services, or who I am before Him in my Christlike character? In what ways can I focus on my character more than my complaints, charisma in giftings, or what I can or cannot contribute in serving the Lord? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.7] What happened when the complaints were served and the apostles were able to fully devote themselves to the ministry of prayer and teaching the Word (v.7)? How can I help my spiritual leaders put their primary focus on the ministry of praying and teaching the Word of God to me and to others? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Rejoice that You are Counted Worthy to Suffer Dishonor for His Name” (ACTS 5:34-42). (1.) [v.34-37] How did Gamaliel – a respected teacher of the law and spiritual leader of that day – stand up against the rage and desire to kill the apostles by the temple leaders, and what example did he give for the temple leaders to consider? How has the holy Spirit stood up against my moments of rage or anger, and how has He brought calm and gentleness to bring me back to my senses? What are some examples in my own life that have brought damage, dispersion, and destruction due to uncontrolled rage and anger that was acted upon without a sound mind in Christ? How much more different is Jesus to me than Theudas or Judas the Galilean, both who came to be nothing? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.38-39] What was Gamaliel’s advice to the temple leaders in asking them to leave the apostles alone? How have I known a plan in my life has been the undertaking of my own invention or the movement of the plan of God? How have I been found opposing God instead of submitting to Him? How have I been found passive towards God instead of active on His mission? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.40-42] What did the temple leaders do before they released the apostles (v.40)? Yet, with what heart, mind, and action did the apostles leave their presence (v.41-42)? Even in dishonor and my suffering, how can I rejoice? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –
