“Listen to the Holy Spirit, for His Dwelling Place is in You” (ACTS 4:44-53).

(1.) [v.44-46] Before any temple was built by king Solomon, how did God direct  Moses the way He desired to dwell with His people (v.44)? This mobile tent (also known as the “tabernacle”) contained the Ark of the Covenant, with the tablets of the Ten Commandments, a jar of manna that God miraculously provided as food in the desert, and Aaron’s rod that budded (see the book of Numbers 17) which reminded the people of God’s priestly appointment and authority on Aaron and his priestly descendants. This mobile tent was called the “tent of witness” or “tent of testimony.” How did this tent give testimony and witness to God’s presence? Until when did God’s people carry this tent with them (v.45)? God did not ask for a greater dwelling place than a tent. Rather, who desired to find and make a more permanent dwelling (v.46)? It is easy to dwell with God on Sunday, being a “Sunday Christian.” Yet equally, how is God calling us to be “Monday Christians” too? How have we limited a worshipful life in Christ to only a time, location, season… when our God is a mobile tent, traveling with us everywhere with His testimony through our lives?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.47-50] Although king Solomon built a temple for God, did God dwell there (v.47-48)? According to Isaiah 66:1-2, why can’t God dwell in an earthly house made by hands (v.49-50)? What is in possession of your hands, being made with your hands, being praised by your hands that you think God is finding His dwelling place in? What earthly house are you building that God is not residing in?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.51-53] Instead of an earthly house, God chose a mobile tent. He still dwells in a mobile way through our ears, minds, hearts, and obedient action. How does He dwell like this (v.51-53)? How do you need to receive instead of resist what the holy Spirit is saying to you? How is God calling you to obey instead of obstruct His law?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025 “LIFT UP YOUR EYES” (John 4:35) HOSANNA FALL RETREAT.

Scripture:

Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. (JOHN 4:35)

The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. (GENESIS 13:14-15)

I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. (PSALM 121:1-4)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You our very first retreat as a Hosanna Church family. Thank You for each one You have called, to make space for this sacred time, to retreat away from our daily tasks, our daily routines, to break our daily schedules, so that Your Spirit might make us one to be together and to seek Your face through Your Word. We pray for Your servant, Reverend Brian Hsieh from Collin County Chinese Fellowship English Ministry. Illuminate his mind with insight into Your message that You desire to speak to our congregation. Fill his heart with Your affections to love our congregation with the faithful teaching and preaching of Your Word. Flow Your power through him as he delivers Your instructions to us. Heavenly Father, lift up our eyes to You into this third year of life as Hosanna Church under the leadership of our new ordained team. Guard them with Your Spirit! Make them one in Your Son! – Elder Nara, Elder Patrick, Deacon Jonathan, Deacon Juhae, Deacon Chong, Deacon Waywah, Deacon Gloria! The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are so few. So send us all, Lord, as Hosanna, into Your harvest field. Help us see now Your fields are white for harvest. Like You promised to Abram and likewise to us, lift up our eyes to look from where we are, to look and see the Kingdom where You long to give to us now and into eternity, that Kingdom coming upon this land in Carrollton and north Dallas and out to the nations. You have given this land of Your lost souls and precious sheep to be gathered into Your Church. You have given it to us and to our offspring after us forever. We do not lift up our eyes to the hills, but to You, O LORD the Creator of every hill, our Helper and Redeemer, who made heaven and earth. You will not let our foot be moved! You who keeps us will neither slumber nor sleep. Through the Lifter-Up of our eyes and souls, our Lord Jesus Christ’s Name, in this powerful new season of harvest for Your Hosanna Church we pray, Amen & amen.

*TODAY (September 21st, 2025) – 2nd ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION! – Hosanna is already turning 2-years-old, and now beginning its third year of life. All glory and praise be to God! To mark this historic milestone, we have:
  • *ORDINATION & INSTALLATION OF ORDAINED OFFICERS – Elder Patrick Liu (re-installation); Nara Im Jeng (ordination & installation to Elder); Jonathan Jeng (ordination & installation to Deacon); Juhae Park (ordination & installation to Deacon)
  • *GROUP PHOTO during WORSHIP – To capture this momentous milestone, we will be taking a group photo prior to the dismissal of the children/youth and after the ordination ceremony. Come and help us remember what the Lord has done in birthing this beautiful church, as we capture this moment in His time!
  • *2nd ANNIVERSARY GIFT for the whole family – HOSANNA BOOKMARK & PEN! – We will have a small gift for all our church family from young to old – a 2nd Anniversary bookmark and pen. May we begin the 3rd year of life in Christ together by keeping our faces in the Book – holy Scripture – and keep this bookmark as we trek through chapter-by-chapter, verse-by-verse, mining the gold fields of God’s eternal Word. Use the pen to journal and write down the Word of God, your devotional thoughts, sermon notes, and words of encouragement in the Lord to one another. Through these small gifts, may God’s faithfulness to Hosanna for two of His faithful years be seared into our memories, and encourage us to press on ahead, knowing as the apostle Paul knew, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” (PHILIPPIANS 1:6). Amen!
  • *SPECIAL GUEST PREACHER – Rev. Mark Story, Highland Park Presbyterian Church of Dallas, “The Inaugural Address for the Kingdom of God” (LUKE 4:14-30) “하나님 나라의 창립 연설” (누가복음 4:14-30) – Praise be to God for calling His servant to preach the Word on the special occasion of our 2nd Anniversary Worship Service! Pastor Mark has been a vital part of helping get Hosanna chartered into our denominational family as an official church, and has particularly done a lot of work in editing our bylaws. Rev. Mark Story grew up in San Angelo, Texas and has lived in Texas his whole life. He received an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Southern Methodist University and a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. Pastor Mark is a “second career” pastor, practicing law in Dallas for almost 25 years before becoming the Executive Director of Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas in 2004. He has been passionate about the ECO Presbyterian denomination from even before its official organization and Highland Park was among the first wave of churches to join. Pastor Mark served as Moderator of the ECO Presbytery in 2017 and currently is a member of the Ministry Partnership Team of the Presbytery. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Dubuque Theological Seminary and proudly became ordained as an ECO Pastor just as he was winding down his career as Executive Director of Highland Park. He continues to serve as an Assistant Pastor at Highland Park on a voluntary basis. Mark and his wife, Bettie, have two grown daughters and five grandchildren. *Let us remember Pastor Mark in our prayers and be ready to receive God’s Word through him.
  • *KOREAN RICE CAKE DESSERTS FOR THE WHOLE BETHANY-HOSANNA FAMILY! – We will be serving delicious Korean rice cakes as desserts to the entire Bethany-Hosanna family. Enjoy and serve one another!

*THANK YOU, BETHANY KOREAN CHURCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! – To celebrate together Hosanna’s 2nd Anniversary next week, our legacy mother-church (Bethany) will graciously donate to us a sacrificial financial gift today. Senior Pastor Haessal Jang sends words of kindness and the Lord’s encouragement, “Congratulations! I believe that God knows all the efforts you have made to build and strengthen the church and will surely bless you… we, from Bethany Church, would like to offer a contribution this Sunday to celebrate Hosanna Church's 2nd anniversary. It's not a large amount, but it is a heartfelt offering that our church has made to the best of its ability, so we hope you will use it well. I also heard that new officers have been appointed at Hosanna Church. I will be praying that you all work together to achieve beautiful things for the Lord. Once again, congratulations on your 2nd anniversary. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Haessal Jang.” Thank you to Pastor Jang and all the Bethany Korean prayer warriors who do not cease to support, partner with, sacrifice, and bless Hosanna into its next chapter! Praise be to God for Bethany’s continued faithfulness to God’s Kingdom work with the spiritual leadership of Pastor Jang. Let’s continue to pray and support one another in the bond of Christ’s love and peace, Amen? Amen.

“The Inaugural Address for the Kingdom of God” (LUKE 4:14-30).

(1.) Looking back to the last two years of Hosanna Church, what are some praises to God we can give for His glorious grace? Looking ahead into our third year of life as a church, what hopes, dreams, and visions is the holy Spirit stirring in your heart to have for Hosanna?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.14-21] According to the words of Jesus as he read from the scroll of Isaiah chapter 61, what did Pastor Mark emphasize as Jesus’ inaugural address for the Kingdom of God? How could Jesus claim that He fulfilled all of those promises in their hearing? As Hosanna inaugurates another 3rd year of life, how is God desiring His Kingdom in heaven to come down more powerfully upon north Dallas on the earth through Hosanna? How is the Lord Jesus calling Hosanna to proclaim Christ as the fulfillment of the good news of the gospel – liberty, recovery, and the Lord’s favor?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.22-30] Did the synagogue congregants at Nazareth accept Jesus’ message? How did they end up responding to Jesus when He claimed His message would only be accepted by those outside of Israel, just as the prophets were sent only to minister to those outside of Israel? How can Hosanna welcome and receive more of Jesus into the new year, especially those whom He seeks for outside our comfortable spheres of friendships and relationships?

*THANK YOU, BETHANY KOREAN CHURCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY! – To celebrate together Hosanna’s 2nd Anniversary next week, our legacy mother-church (Bethany) will graciously donate to us a sacrificial financial gift this Sunday. Amen.

Mark Story, Highland Park Presbyterian Church of Dallas – Praise be to God for calling His servant to preach the Word on the special occasion of our 2nd Anniversary Worship Service!

During his studies at the University of Florida, he had the opportunity to serve on campus, and help in the youth and children ministries at a local church. It was during this time that the Lord gave him a passion for full-time ministry, and upon graduating, he moved to Dallas to attend seminary at Dallas Theological Seminary, where he received the Master of Theology degree in 2011. From 2010-2020, Pastor Brian served as youth and then English Pastor at Plano Chinese Alliance Church. He joined the staff at Collin County Chinese Fellowship Church in 2022. Brian is married to Nelly, and together they have a daughter, Emery. Their hope and heart in serving in the Chinese church is that while language and culture may be the common ground that initially brings us together, it would be superseded by our new identity in Christ as believers. *Let us remember Pastor Brian in our prayers and be ready to receive God’s Word through him.

“Do Not Refuse the One that the Lord Sends to You” (ACTS 7:30-43).

(1.) [v.30-34] Deacon Stephen continues his sermon by putting the focus back on Moses, refuting the charge that he had been speaking against Moses or trying to change the customs of God’s law that Moses had delivered to them. Deacon Stephen’s exodus narrative reveals who the real rejectors of Moses were, for Moses was first rejected by their spiritual forefathers (the Israelites), whom they claimed to be aligned with. Likewise, by rejecting Moses, they were rejecting the greater prophet over Moses – Jesus Christ. How did God appear to Moses (v.30-33)? Out of seeing the affliction of His people, what did God promise to do (v.34)? How have you lost the sense of God’s holiness, keeping your sandals on instead of taking them off? Does Christ see all your afflictions? If God is the ultimate Deliverer of Egypt, why does He want to send you to your Egypt?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.35-38] How was Moses mocked yet magnificently used by God (v.35-36)? How did Moses keep away from glorifying himself, pointing to a greater reality of a perfect Prophet and Deliverer (v.37)? What did Moses receive on Mount Sinai that showed the perfect holiness of God (v.38)? How is God magnificently doing His work through you despite the wilderness seasons? How is God raising up your life to point to the glory of His Son’s life? How has the holiness of God’s Word come alive to you, like the living oracles given to Moses?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.39-43] Instead of obeying Moses, what did the forefathers do (v.39-41)? How did God respond to this refusal of the one He had sent (v.42-43)? When refusing to obey Christ, what “Egypt” do you turn to? Do you fear the judgment and discipline of refusing Christ?

“Understand Jesus is the New and Greater Moses” (ACTS 7:17-29).

(1.) [v.17-19] Deacon Stephen had been accused of speaking against Moses, the law that God gave through Moses, and changing the customs of that law delivered to Moses. To refute this claim, Deacon Stephen’s sermon begins to focus on the One who is better and greater than Moses – Jesus Christ. What promise was drawing near (v.17; look back to verse 6-7)? Like the evil of King Herod in the days of Jesus, who arose as the evil in the days of Moses (v.18)? How was Pharaoh’s actions like King Herod who sought to find and kill Jesus as a child (v.19)? What promise of deliverance is Christ desiring to bring near to you that you have not been able to break free from for many years? What kind of evil has arisen in our day? How is Christ and the life He produces in both infants and the new birth through faith being threatened in our day?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.20-22] Just as Jesus was a pleasure in Father God’s sight and was preserved from life-threatening danger, how did God take pleasure at the birth of Moses and protect the infant Moses (v.20-21)? Just as Jesus was “mighty in deed and word” (LUKE 24:19), what was Moses mighty in as he was raised in the wisdom of the Egyptians? (v.22)? The name “Moses” means “drawn from the water,” as Pharaoh’s daughter pulled Moses out of the Nile River, adopting him as her own son. How has Christ pulled you out of the waters of hopelessness and death, to adopt you into God’s covenant family as a child of God? What mighty words and deeds of the Lord Jesus is being instructed to you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.23-29] How did Moses’ attempt to save his own people by his own hand fail (v.23-29)? Unlike Moses, how did Jesus succeed in saving us by His own hand?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Candidates for Ordained Office of Elder and Deacon.

Scripture:

If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. (JOHN 12:26)

For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. (1 TIMOTHY 3:13)

So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (1 PETER 5:1-5)

Prayer (by Pastor Chester):
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You for this final hour the 2025-’26 candidates for your ordained offices of Deacon and Elder in Your beloved Church. We thank You, Holy Spirit, for guiding us through the season of nominations, putting forth the names of those whom You have called to Your precious harvest. We thank You for all the candidates – Patrick Liu, Nara Jeng, Juhae Park, and Jonathan Jeng, alongside the covenant term renewals of Deacon Chong Choe, Deacon Gloria Gee, and Deacon Waywah Gee, and the legacy of faithfulness to Your office and service that Elder Heather leaves before us at the end of her term. We thank You, for You did all of this to build Your Kingdom here through Hosanna. Lord Jesus, You said that where You are, Your servant will be also, and if anyone serves You, the Father will honor that servant. We honor these servants. May the Deacons who serve well gain a good standing for themselves and great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. May our elders shepherd the flock of God willingly, eagerly, and as first examples of humble servanthood. Let all of us who are younger be subject to the elders, who are worthy of double honor as they serve, teach, and admonish us. May we all clothe ourselves with humility toward one another, for You oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. Give us grace. Give us the humble heart of Christ Jesus, our chief Elder and lead suffering Deacon, we pray, Amen & amen.
