Dr. Zhao currently serves as a resident church-planter at our sister-ECO Presbyterian congregation in the Dallas area, Highland Park Presbyterian Church and in their family of churches, one of which is the Highland Park Chinese Church, led by Rev. Ben Wang. Dr. Zhao has been with HPCC since 2015, and the congregation has grown to plant a new Chinese fellowship in Richardson, TX called the Solid Rock Fellowship, where Dr. Zhao also serves as its primary church-planter. Dr. Zhao was born and raised in China, where he studied and graduated with the Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from Peking University in Beijing. He came to the Dallas area to pursue the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he was radically moved to trust in Jesus Christ and came to a saving knowledge of God’s love through Christians on the SMU campus who offered their fellowship and shared the gospel with him. Through this radical transformation of faith and encounter with Jesus, Dr. Zhao immediately gave up his doctoral studies in engineering and enrolled in seminary at Criswell College, where his calling to pastoral ministry began to grow. He graduated with the Master of Divinity degree in 2016, and then went on to Dallas Theological Seminary, where he graduated in 2023 with the Ph.D. degree in Old Testament studies, majoring in the wisdom literature of the Hebrew Bible (especially the books of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Psalms, and Song of Songs). Currently, Dr. Zhao is a candidate for pastoral ordination in our ECO Presbyterian denomination for Ordained Minister/Reverend. *Thank you, Minister Zhao, for preaching to us the Word of God! Due to a Deacon training that Dr. Zhao needs to take part around noon, he will need to leave immediately after-service. *TEXAS PRESBYTERY-WIDE CALL FOR PRAYER FOR HILL COUNTRY FLOOD CRISIS! – We are continuing a spirit of fasting and prayer for the flood disaster as our Texas Presbytery leaders have called for us to do as ECO Presbyterian churches. *Continue this week to fast at least one meal and pray for all the grieving families, those who are still missing, the heroic first responders still searching, and all the churches who incurred great damage from this disaster. The Session will donate through the appropriate channels to help with relief efforts. *HOSANNA INTERCESSORY PRAYER (HIP) TEAM! – Do you have a passion for prayer, collecting confidential and public prayer requests, and interceding prayerfully for one another and the mission of Hosanna Church? We are excited to create our first-ever HIP (Hosanna Intercessory Prayer) team – a group of prayer warriors who collect & organize prayer requests, are a constant stream of prayer before Father God, and meet occasionally to pray for the church. See Elder Patrick to join this vital ministry of Hosanna! *TODAY (7/27) –

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Minister Dr. Will Zhihui Zhao’s pastoral calling, ordination, and church-planting work with Highland Park Chinese Church and Solid Rock Fellowship in Richardson, Texas. Scripture: Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. (ACTS 20:28) Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. (1 PETER 5:2-3) And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. (ACTS 2:42) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we again take a moment to lift-up to You the ongoing crisis of the Hill country flooding. Wipe away every tear from the hundreds of grieving families, bring Your comforting peace that surpasses understanding, and strengthen the first responders still working in the flood wreckage. Let every soul be found in You. Today, we lift-up to You Minister Will Zhao, whom You have brought to us again to deliver Your words. Thank You for calling him, saving him, and leading him to the joyful obedience of preparation and pastoring Your flock. Holy Spirit, You are raising Minister Zhao as Your overseer, to care for Your Church, which You obtained with Your own blood. May he shepherd the flock of the Chief Shepherd that is among him, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as You would have him. Not for shameful gain, but eagerly. Not domineering over those you will put under his charge, but being the example of Christ to the flock. Lord, may Solid Rock Fellowship and Highland Park Chinese congregation be continually devoted to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Through the gentle, compassionate, yet uncompromising shepherding work of Minister Zhao, may they flourish in Your Holy Spirit. From start to finish, guide Your servant through this ordination journey and anoint him to overflow with power from on high, filled with the Spirit, for the pastoral ministry now and all that You have planned ahead. Through the Chief Shepherd, Lead Servant and Suffering Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ’s name we pray, Amen & amen.

Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “For the Second Time, Obey God Alone as His Witness with the Holy Spirit” (ACTS 5:21-33). (1.) [v.21-25] The apostles were supposed to be in the public prison where the jealous priestly leaders put them, yet in great perplexity where did they find the apostles the next day and what were they doing (v.25)? Am I remaining lock-up in the place where Satan expects me to be? How has the Holy Spirit freed me to be where He desires for me, and continue doing what He’s called me to do? How can I be found missing where the world expects me to be, and ever-present where the Spirit of God has placed me to be? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.26-28] Humiliated and embarrassed, the temple leaders and priestly leaders bring the apostles back to them from their apparent jailbreak. Instead of humbly being in fear of God, who were they more afraid of (v.26)? Instead of repenting and receiving the message of the apostles, what do they double-down on saying (v.28)? Am I more afraid of being hurt in the sight of people rather than being eternally judged in the sight of God? What am I doubling-down on that is increasing a spirit of hard-heartedness towards the life-saving blood of Jesus? Is His blood on my hands, yet not in my heart? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.29-33] Peter and the apostles have been arrested before (see ACTS 4:21). This being the second time, how do they reply to the priestly leaders as they did similarly during their first arrest (see ACTS 4:19)? For the second time, or third, or fourth… how am I being prepared to obey Christ alone as His witness? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership Scripture: Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith. (HEBREWS 13:7) I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service (1 TIMOTHY 1:12) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (EPHESIANS 2:10) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we first take a moment again to lift-up to You the over one-hundred and thirty souls who have been taken from the Hill country flooding, as well as the over one-hundred souls still missing, the hundreds of grieving families that are mourning for their children, parents, relatives, and grandparents they now must press on without. We especially pray for the families who are grieving the passing of their children. Wipe away their tears, and help them know You are near and with them. By the power of the gospel, bring the hope of Your resurrected life, that we will all see You and one another again, and what a day of rejoicing in Your Son that will be! Continue to strengthen the first responders in the flood wreckage, and let every soul be found in You. Again, we lift-up to You this final week of nominations. We remember our ordained leaders who spoke to us the Word of God. We consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. We thank You for giving us strength in Christ, judging us faithful and appointing us to Your service in all the varied ways of Your Church. *TEXAS PRESBYTERY-WIDE CALL FOR PRAYER FOR HILL COUNTRY FLOOD CRISIS! – Our Texas Presbytery Stated Clerk, Elder Hardie Morgan (Grace Presbyterian Church, Houston) and Presbytery Moderator Rev. Wayne Urbanowski (Senior Pastor, Leon Springs Presbyterian Church, San Antonio) have called for a time of mourning and prayer for flooding that took so many lives, especially young children. *WELCOME NEW COVENANT PARTNERS! – The Ventura family: Jason, Jihoon, and daughter Elena! Welcome this precious family God created and sent to us! Get to know the Ventura’s with the love of Jesus Christ! *CRY ROOM SPEAKERS ARE WORKING AGAIN! – One of the attached-ceiling speakers in the rear Cry Room of the Chapel is working, so those who customarily utilize the room can do so again and join our live worship service. The speaker nearest to the door is still not working, but the one speaker that is functioning correctly is more than sufficient to hear well. We apologize again for any disturbance to worship. *The Preschool Worship Room also livestreams the worship service from the flat-screen TV. Utilize any of these avenues to enhance your worship for the Lord! *PASTORAL BREAK – SUNDAY (7/27) – The Session has encouraged, mandated, and ordered the Pastor to take the minimum 2-Sunday off break period. Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Even with Your Shadow, Release All the Words and Works of Life” (ACTS 5:12-21a). (1.) [v.12-13] Many miraculous signs and wonders were regularly done by the hands of the apostles, but did all those who witness them join the Church (v.13a)? Although they dared not to join the New Testament Church, how did they view these Christians (v.13b)? Although Christ regularly shows me that He is the miraculous sign and wonder of my salvation, how have I not fully joined in His work and His Church? How am I esteeming and honoring followers of Jesus without being one myself? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.14-16] Although a certain “rest” of the people dared not join the believers, what continued to happen (v.14)? In particular, how exponentially did the influence of Christ’s miraculous signs and wonders through the apostle Peter grow among those who were sick (v.15-16)? How is the Lord desiring to bring not just some, but multitudes of both men and women, infant to elderly, to Jesus through me despite some who walk away from this mission? How does Christ want to exponentially grow my influence for Him, so that even my shadow that falls on some may bring the healing touch of His powerful life? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.17-21a] Although the spiritual leaders of the day arrested the apostles out of jealousy for their spiritual power, what happened (v.19)? What did they continue to do, just as the angel of the Lord instructed (v.20-21)? How is Christ’s influence through me opening imprisoned souls? How must I press on in this? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership Scripture: And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men and women, who will be able to teach others also. (2 TIMOTHY 2:2) Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. (ROMANS 12:6-8) Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. (HEBREWS 13:17) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we first take a moment to lift-up to You the over one-hundred grieving families who have lost their loved ones, precious young daughters, parents, siblings, those who are still missing, and the first responders still searching the flood wreckage. We mourn especially for the little children. Father, receive them into Your everlasting arms, and wipe away the tears of all the grieving parents. Restore unto them the hope of the resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, how we will all be together at that glorious last day. Until then, raise up Your chosen servants, especially the new class of 2025-’26 ordained spiritual officers of your beloved Church. Father, we continue the nominations with prayerful hearts, having heard from Your apostle Paul to entrust the gospel to faithful men and women able to teach others. Reveal to us our spiritual gifts, so that we might use them to serve, to teach, to exhort, to contribute, to lead, to act in Your mercy. Let us obey our spiritual leaders and humbly submit to them out of reverence for Christ. Let us progress in these nominations with joy in fulfilling our covenant partnership responsibilities to Your beloved Church. In the name of our Chief Elder, Chief Deacon, and Head Pastor Jesus Christ, Amen & amen! *WELCOME to HOSANNA! – *Warmest welcome to all of you, especially if you are visiting or re-visiting! *PRAISE SONGS for TODAY! – Practice them and be ready to sing them on Sunday morning. Praise on, brothers and sisters! Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Tell the Whole Truth and Give Your Whole Self to the Holy Spirit” (ACTS 5:1-11). (1.) [v.1-6] Like Barnabas did earlier, Ananias and his wife Sapphira wanted to sell their property too and give all the proceeds to the apostles. However, unlike Barnabas did, how differently did they go about doing this (v.1-2)? By doing this, who did they lie to (v.3-4)? What happened to Ananias – the husband – when his scheme was uncovered (v.5-6)? How am I “keeping back” what the Holy Spirit is asking to be giving all? By doing so, how am I appearing Christlike, when I am really not? By being dishonest with myself, who am I really lying to? How can I fear God instead of fear being uncovered/exposed? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.7-8] Like her husband Ananias did, what did Sapphira claim when asked about the price of the land that was sold (v.7-8)? How am I saying “yes” when I should really be saying “no”? Like He did to Sapphira, how is the Holy Spirit giving me a second chance to be honest before Him? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.9-11] According to Peter, what was Ananias and Sapphira doing to the Spirit of the Lord (v.9)? When confronted with the truth, what happens to Sapphira, just as what happened to her husband Ananias (v.10)? What came upon the whole church who heard these things (v.11)? How am I testing the Spirit of the Lord by keeping back what I should be giving all – my heart, my resources, my giving, my time, my love? Am I more fearful of being discovered by people or by God who can instantly demand my life back? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the 2025-’26 Hosanna Ordained Spiritual Leadership Scripture: Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of elders laid their hands on you. (1 TIMOTHY 4:14) The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. (1 TIMOTHY 3:1-3) So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory. (1 PETER 5:1-4) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the new class of 2025-’26 Hosanna ordained spiritual officers of your beloved Church. As we begin the nominations and prayer period today, guide us into Your heart, Your choice, and Your calling for ourselves and those you want to encourage to step up in spiritual maturity to serve, rather than to be served, just like the Son of Man and Son of God came to do as a ransom for many. Father, You created our highest pleasure to be humble servants of our Creator instead of addicted servant-slaves to creation. May the role of servanthood in Deaconship, and shepherdship in Eldership, be the natural progression of a maturing walk with Your Son, as we learn to shine His image brighter and more faithfully into a dark and depraved Church and world. Let us not neglect the gift you have given us by those who have prayed for us and laid their prayerful hands on us. Let us aspire to the noble office of Deacon and Elder to grow our godly Christlikeness, manifesting before others the true character of Christ. Grow followers into servants, and servants into commissioned officers who suffer well with Christ in overseeing His flock, so that we might partake in His glory to be revealed, until our Chief Elder, Chief Deacon and Shepherd appears with our crown of glory, Jesus Christ, Amen & amen! |
