[RESURRECTION SUNDAY]
The Gospel According to the Acts of the Apostles – THE CHURCH IN ACTION (part 53):
God has Brought the Savior Jesus, Just as He Promised (ACTS 13:16-25)

(1.) [v.16-20] Having been invited by the rulers of the synagogue in Pisidian Antioch to speak a word of encouragement, Paul now stands up and motions with his hands to his audience as he begins proclaiming the gospel. His word of encouragement centered around what God alone could do for His people to fulfill His promise in bringing the Savior Jesus to them. God chose their forefathers of the faith and made them great during their time in Egypt (v.17). God led them out of Egypt with His uplifted arm (v.17). God patiently put up with them during the forty years of rebellion in the wilderness (v.18). God destroyed their enemies and gave them land as inheritance (v.19). God gave them judges to rescue them and govern them until the time of the prophet Samuel (v.20). *Likewise, when did God choose you? When has He led you out of sin’s bondage and addiction with His uplifted arm? How has God destroyed what would destroy you? What inheritance has God given to you? Who are the judges of His Word that God has given to you? How is the life of the Israelites the foreshadow of your true exodus/exit out of the former life into the newness of life in Jesus Christ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(2.) [v.21-23] Although the LORD God was their King, they asked for an earthly king to be like all the other godless nations around them. However, they soon found out how no earthly king, like Saul, could ever be perfectly obedient, holy, and righteous like the King of all kings in heaven. Yet even after the removal of Saul as king, God was gracious to raise up another earthly king, finding in him a man after his own heart (David). Through David’s distant offspring, God foretells His promise to bring the Savior Jesus to them (2 Samuel 7:12-13), whom He sends in the fullness of time (Galatians 4:4). *How are you asking for something that is not on the heart of God? How has God granted in His grace what you had asked for, only to be taught by God a lesson that your request was not a wise nor a godly one? What “kings” do you desire on earth to follow and have apart from King Jesus Christ? What makes Jesus’ kingship different from any other earthly king? Like David hoped for, how can you be building a house, throne, and kingdom that will live beyond your lifetime?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3.) [v.24-25] Paul explains that John’s baptism could only turn someone away from sin through repentance. However, Jesus’ baptism in the Holy Spirit can wash away all sin and bring birth in the newness of life. *As John denied He was the Christ and instead prepared the way for Christ, are you denying or affirming your worthiness before King Jesus? Are you preparing or blocking His way?

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – Deacon Waywah Gee will lead us in this week’s Kingdom expansion responsive Scripture reading and prayer.
