FEARLESS CHRISTMAS [part 1] “Do Not Fear, Mary: Nothing is Impossible with God” (LUKE 1:26-38) (1.) [v.26-31] After God provided an impossible conception for Elizabeth who was barren and her unbelieving husband Zechariah in their elderly years (v.5-25), an even more impossible conception is promised for Mary in the middle of her betrothal/engagement period as an unmarried, young, and virgin woman. As the angel Gabriel greeted her as the Lord’s favored one, how did Mary feel about this greeting and how did the angel Gabriel comfort her (v.26-30)? How specifically did the angel Gabriel describe God’s promise to occur in her womb (v.31)? Like Mary’s betrothal/engagement period, how has God’s timing come at the most inconvenient and undesirable seasons of your life that appeared, at first glance, to ruin all of your plans? When God’s favored grace comes upon our lives, how do we react with worldly fear instead of humble faith? As Mary was assured with specific details of her miraculous conception, how have all the details of the gospel of Christ assured you in the womb of your heart that Jesus is with you and has graced you as His favored one? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.32-35] The name “Jesus” – which also is the equivalent of “Joshua/Yeshua/Yehoshua” in Hebrew, was a very common name during biblical times. Yet this child Jesus to be born in Mary’s womb would be unlike any common child born in human history. What does the angel Gabriel say that Jesus will be called and what Jesus will fulfill (v.32-33)? As Mary wondered how this impossible birth was to happen since she was still a virgin, how did the angel Gabriel describe how this will all happen (v.34-35)? Like Mary, how has Jesus Christ come into the womb of our lives, conceived in our hearts and minds? How has this not happened naturally, but spiritually by the power of the Holy Spirit? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.36-38] In addition to prophesying the specific details of this promise of Jesus, what sign does the angel Gabriel give to Mary, assuring her that all these things would take place for certain although appearing impossible (v.36-37)? How does Mary humbly surrender her whole self with godly faith (v.38)? How can you do the same today, although all appears impossible ahead of you? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –

*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on Christmas Advent season & December ministries Scripture: And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. (LUKE 2:6-7) And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. (MATTHEW 2:9-11) And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (LUKE 2:10-11) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we lift up to You this 3rd week of holy Advent on the eve of Christmas Lord’s Day next Sunday. We eagerly wait to celebrate Your eternal Son’s first arrival and hope in His second coming, with exceeding and great joy, just as the wise men of the east did when they saw the star rise and go before them to rest over the place where the child Jesus was. We fall down to worship Christ Jesus as Lord again, offering our treasures and our lives to our humble newborn King, who was conceived by the holy Spirit in the womb of virgin Mary, as her firstborn son and wrapped in swaddling cloths to be laid where no King should be laid – in a manger for animal food, because there was no place in the inn. Yet find us, O Lord, to give you the highest place, the central place, the dwelling place of our lives as we fall down before Your manger. We worship with the angelic hosts, who told us not to fear, who brought us the good news of great joy that is for all the people, that unto us is born in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ Jesus the Lord! May that great joy of our newborn Lord be with us today in breakout discussion groups after-service, to our humble dishwashers as they serve, to our baptism orientation with sister Mya, to the great joy of our birthdays tomorrow for Kate and Minster Chao, and Jason on Tuesday, to our Christmas fellowship and gift exchange on Saturday, to next Sunday’s blessed Christmas Worship, advent candlelighting, youth & children’s Christmas presentations – may the joy of Christ Jesus our newborn King and Lord rest among us and fill us to overflow for the only true reason for this season, in the resurrected name of our humble King Jesus from the manger, to the cross, to the tomb, and back to the right hand of the Father in heaven, and to come again in glory, Amen & Amen.
