[The Gospel According to the Acts of the Apostles – THE CHURCH IN ACTION (part 36)] Full of Good Works and Grace: The Legacy of a Godly Woman (ACTS 9:36-43) (1.) [v.36-38] In Joppa, what was the disciple Tabitha known for (v.36)? Although she was a faithful, genuine, and generous disciple, what happened to Tabitha (v.37)? Because the community was so grieved and sorrowful over the death of Tabitha, what did the disciples in Joppa do upon hearing that Peter was nearby in the town of Lydda (v.38)? In your family… among your church family… among your neighbors… what are you known for in your character? Are we just talkers about doing good works and acts of charity for Christ, or are we truly doers of them like the disciple Tabitha was? “Charity” in this verse means the giving of alms – generous financial gifts and offerings of support. The disciple Tabitha evidenced this through the many garments/tunics she made to cloth the widows. How are you being good stewards of God’s financial entrustment to you? Does your giving reflect generosity or sparsity? Will the absence of your presence and your godly generosity be missed or go unnoticed? Will your absence bring godly grief and sorrow to God’s people because you are a visible image and reflection of the character of Christ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.39-40] When Peter arrived at the upper room where Tabitha’s dead body lay, what were the widows doing and why (v.39)? What did Peter ask everyone to do (v.40)? Then, what did Peter do as he turned to the body of Tabitha (v.40)? How was Peter recalling the healing words of Jesus from Mark 5:41 and Luke 8:54? When you pass into glory, what are the “tunics and garments” you will leave behind, like Tabitha did? What are the words of Christ you will leave behind that can unleash spiritual power, like Jesus’ healing words did with Peter? How are you unlearning to lead with your own words and letting Jesus lead you with His divine Word? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.41-43] As the widows were reunited in fellowship with Tabitha, who was Peter uniting in fellowship for several days in Joppa (v.43)? Tabitha was resuscitated back to her old life only to die again. How will we be raised differently by Jesus Christ? *UPCOMING HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM OUR HOSANNA FAMILY! We celebrate you and love you in Christ so much! (*Let us know if we missed your birthday! We sincerely apologize) –
*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on 2026 January Ministry Scripture: Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (JOHN 3:3) For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. (ROMANS 12:4-5) There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (GALATIANS 3:28) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we lift up to You the month of January 2026. Thank You for the blessed celebrations of birthdays today for our brother Justin Chao, sister Ashley Chung, and Director Trey Reynolds. We celebrate their birth, but so much more the new birth You have generated in them from the womb of the Kingdom of heaven. Truly, unless on is born again, we cannot see the kingdom of God. So we pray today our three souls will see more and more Your Kingdom come, Your will be done in their lives as they live out their new birth from above. Bless their families today with joy in Your presence. Bless our Elder Heather's birthday this Thursday as well. We praise You for the new life to come, the nourishing growth and healthy delivery of our new sister Gee. May Your hand rest upon the Gee’s and Deacon Gloria as they prepare for Your joy to come. We praise You for Your healing touch on our sister Aria's fever this week. Bless our breakout discussion groups and lunch fellowship today with deep conversations around Christ, His mind, and His Word. This Friday, bless and be with our AGAPE young adults & families life group gathering. Tomorrow, we thank You for the legacy of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who left us an imprint of what it means to be part of the one body in Christ, the endowment of Your image on all Your children, and the gospel that transcends racial and cultural barriers. May we never give in to discriminating one another for any reason or prejudice, but live into being the one body of Christ with many members. We may not all have the same function, but we still makeup Your Son’s one body, individually members of one another. Now in Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male role and female role that separate and distinguish one more dominant than the other in both the home and church, but we are all one in Christ Jesus clothed with the character of Christ Jesus. Help us to submit to one another and love each other, as Christ has loved us, and as Christ has used Reverend King’s short life to show us, through our risen King and Lord Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & Amen.
