Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Pay Attention to the Real Great Power of God from the Greatest One” (ACTS 8:5-13) (1.) [v.5-8] God raises up another Deacon to carry on the work of Deacon Stephen. Stephen had been martyred, but God raised up Philip, who was among the seven Deacons chosen with Stephen (see Acts 6:5 and Acts 21:8) to bring the gospel to the city of Samaria. When Deacon Philip proclaimed Christ to the Samaritans, how did they listen (v.6)? What happened to many who had unclean spirits and disabilities (v.7)? What did they have in abundance (v.8)? Are you paying attention to what is being said when Christ is proclaimed? What is distracting you from being attentive to the proclamation of the gospel? How is the holy Spirit identifying your unclean spirits? What evil spirits are crippling, paralyzing, and weakening your walk with Christ? How is the holy Spirit desiring to deliver you into His great joy? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.9-11] In Samaria, we are introduced to a magician named Simon. How did the Samaritans react to Simon’s magic/sorcery and what did they say about Simon (v.9-11)? The contrast between Deacon Philip and Simon cannot be clearer. One was a proclaimer of the greatness of Christ while another was the receiver of greatness belonging to Christ. From the least to the greatest in this generation, who is everyone paying attention to for greatness? What are you paying attention to for its amazement and greatness that are fabrications of God’s greatness and power? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.12-13] In Samaria, the magician Simon was considered great. But what happened when the Samaritans believed Deacon Philip’s preaching of the good news about Christ (v.12)? Who else believed and was amazed at Deacon Philip’s great miracles (v.13)? How have you believed the gospel and obeyed to receive the covenant sign of baptism? Like Simon, how can we believe and be baptized, yet still have wrong motives with an unclean heart (see v.18-24)? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –
*UPCOMING HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM OUR HOSANNA FAMILY! We celebrate you and love you in Christ so much! (*Let us know if we missed your birthday! We sincerely apologize) –
*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the blessings of the Upcoming November ministries, especially Thanksgiving season. Scripture: Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (PSALM 107:1) Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18) Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. (PHILIPPIANS 4:6) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, as the world prepares this week for a celebration and glorification of hallowing darkness, disguise, death, fear, gore, and trickery, we hallow Your Name that brings life, light, revelation, joy, faith, eternal life, and the greatest gifted treat of all – the sending of Your only Son so that we might not perish, but have everlasting life in His Name. At the name of Jesus, may our hearts swell with giving thanks for His grace as we approach this new Thanksgiving season of November. The leaves fall and season change to winter, but You, O God, never change, for You are always good, and Your steadfast love endures forever. So we give thanks to You, Lord, for all that You’ve done. Thank You for adding to our number through the covenant partnership of brother Timothy Sung, making your Church stronger. All thanks be to You for the Christmas shoebox project, our small part in providing for Your children around the world. All thanks be given to You for our new ordained officers, our opportunity to serve the tables/chairs setup ministry for November, the extra hour of rest in daylight savings next week, our congregational meeting next week which You’ve kept the financial health of Your Church, the desserts ministry next week, our honored staff members who have served so faithfully the past year, our life groups sharing Christ-centered community, our Thanksgiving family worship and communion we will share around Your table. All thanks be to You for all the birthdays – sister Stacy Hong today, brother Eric Sung next week, Mrs. Hanna Park samonim, Joseph Ko, Emma Jeng, and sister Winnie Kim. Thank You for the new friends we’ve seen again through Chris and through Sarah. Let us rejoice us this November, pray without ceasing, giving thanks in all circumstances, for this is Your will for us in Christ Jesus. Let us not be anxious about anything, but in everything freely bring it in prayer with a humble, earnest, desperation before You, with a thankful heart, letting every request be made known to You, through the Hearer and Answer of all of our prayers and worthy of all thanks, our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we pray, Amen & amen.
