Pre-read, think through, and share this spiritual food in discussion with one another! “Gather to be Scattered with Gospel Seeds Watered by Persecuted Blood” (ACTS 8:1-4) (1.) [v.1a] What was Saul doing while Deacon Stephen was being stoned to death? Later, did the apostle Paul come to repent of this (see 1 Corinthians 15:9)? How have you once approved what you really should have denied? In this verse, the word “approved” can also mean “to be pleased with and agree that it is good.” In Christ, how has sin that once pleased you now a source of displeasure? In Christ, how can worldly pleasures we once agreed were good become what we deny and depart from in the power of the holy Spirit? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2.) [v.1b-2] On the day that Deacon Stephen was executed, what arose against the church in Jerusalem (v.1b)? What happened to all the servants of God like Deacon Stephen (v.1b)? Although public lamentation/mourning was considered inappropriate for an executed individual (according to the rabbinic text called the Mishnah), what did “devout men” do with the body of Deacon Stephen (v.2)? How should living as a Christian become harder instead of easier, just as persecution increased instead of decreased in the days of Deacon Stephen? How did God use even great persecution against the Church to take the gospel beyond Jerusalem, fulfilling His promise from Acts 1:8? How is God’s mission always set on scattering with gospel seeds what we are equipped with in our gatherings as His Church? How ought we gather to further scatter gospel seeds? If we are the scattered gospel seeds, what must we do to bear much fruit through our seeds (see John 12:24)? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (3.) [v.3-4] While the scattering of gospel seeds increased, what also increased through Saul (v.3; see also Acts 26:9-11)? Wherever the servants of God were scattered, what did they do (v.4)? How have we increased gathering while decreased scattering as His Church? How can we share the gospel where God has scattered us? *UPCOMING (*notice some dates may have changed) –
*UPCOMING HAPPIEST BIRTHDAY TO YOU FROM OUR HOSANNA FAMILY! We celebrate you and love you in Christ so much! (*Let us know if we missed your birthday! We sincerely apologize) –
*KINGDOM EXPANSION PRAYER – This week’s Kingdom expansion prayers will focus on the blessings of the 2025 “LIFT UP YOUR EYES” (John 4:35) HOSANNA FALL RETREAT. Scripture: Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, then comes the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. (JOHN 4:35) The Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward, for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever. (GENESIS 13:14-15) I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. (PSALM 121:1-4) Prayer (by Pastor Chester): Heavenly Father, we give thanks to You for granting us our very first retreat as a Hosanna Church family. Thank You for each one You have called, who made space for this sacred time, to retreat away from our daily tasks, our daily routines, to break free from our daily schedules, so that Your Spirit might make us one to be together and to seek Your face through Your Word. Lord Jesus, thank You for providing Reverend Brian Hsieh to preach to us Your message, illuminating our minds with the holy Spirit’s urging to look at You, repent before You, to exercise our servanthood with You, and to remember Your call upon our lives to follow after You. Whether we were there in body physically or in spirit prayerfully, heavenly Father, keep our eyes lifted to You and off of ourselves this third year of life as Hosanna Church under the leadership of our new ordained Elders and Deacons. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are so few. So send us all, Lord, as Hosanna, into Your harvest field. Help us see now Your fields are white for harvest. Like You promised to Abram and likewise to us, lift up our eyes to look from where we are, to look and see the Kingdom where You long to give to us now and into eternity, that Kingdom coming upon this land in Carrollton and north Dallas and out to the nations. You have given this land of Your lost souls and precious sheep to be gathered into Your Church. You have given it to us and to our offspring after us forever. We do not lift up our eyes to the hills, but to You, O LORD the Creator of every hill, our Helper and Redeemer, who made heaven and earth. You will not let our foot be moved! You who keeps us will neither slumber nor sleep. Through the Lifter-Up of our eyes and souls, our Lord Jesus Christ’s Name, in this powerful new season of harvest for Your Hosanna Church we pray, Amen & amen.
