*URGENT UPDATE: Worship Facility Change to the Gymnasium starting this Sunday (6/9)
Dear Church, Last night, an emergency board meeting was held with the ongoing problems of water leakage, facility damage, foul smell, and visible mold spores spotted (especially in the Cry Room, Media backroom and Ezra Chapel). After further examination, the board unanimously decided it is not safe for our congregants to worship any longer in the Ezra Chapel, Cry Room, as well as congregate in the Corner Room and Office (which also had significant water leakage). The preschool worship room had leakage near the windows and a window blind collapsed, but no visible mold spores were spotted and after treatment with the ozone filter, there is no lingering foul odor. The carpet in the preschool room also appears to be drying over time. However, the other impacted areas continue to remain wet/soaked with a moldy smell and visible mold spores on the drywall.
From Pastor Chester’s conversation with Pastor Haessal Jang's consultation with expert examiners, the problems were discerned as fourfold: (1) faulty construction of the foundation that is level to (instead of elevated from) the ground, allowing flooded water on the grass to seep into the bricks, drywall, and carpet (2) faulty construction of drainage – no proper gutter system and drainage on the roof has been built (3) faulty construction of outer bricks without waterproof treatment – the bricks soak-in the water instead of repel the water out, making water come in from the heights of the brick walls to the ground-level of the brick walls, creating leaks from top and bottom simultaneously (4) faulty roof construction and overall structural architecture of the entire facility The board agreed that until all renovations/remediations to fix the problems are resolved, we will no longer be using the Ezra Chapel for worship. The board then prayerfully requested for approval to Bethany Korean Church to hold our worship temporarily in the gym, starting this Sunday, as the best temporary option moving forward. This request was joyfully granted and supported by Bethany. *Therefore, starting this Sunday (6/9), we will be congregating in the gym for our 11:10am resurrection Sunday worship service.
The Preschool Worship will still run normally in the Preschool Room, as discerned by Coordinator Ashley. The Cry Room, Ezra Chapel, and Corner Conference Room will remain closed. The Office will remain open for Coffee/Tea/Snacks, but not as a place to sit down to congregate/fellowship.
We want to sincerely apologize for the discomfort this may cause you or your family. With the temporary change of location and without all the features of our chapel, this next season may be a real challenge for our community. May our collective worship to our worthy Lord not be hindered nor distracted by facility issues, nor defined by a location! As we travel through this next season for an undetermined amount of time, I trust our good and faithful God, with the leading of His holy Spirit, and gripped by Jesus’ hand – already has carved out His way for Hosanna.
I invite you to the gymnasium/cafeteria this Sunday for our worship together, “not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near” (HEBREWS 10:25).
